got CDL yesterday
Question:
Completed school yesterday. Got my CDL! Scored 93 on pre-trip, 96 on backing skills test and 95 on road. Trying to decide between TMC and Roehl. Any thoughts? Any advice would be great.

Answer:
Of those two I would go with Roehl. They are in my top three list and they seem to be an excellent company.

Answer:
Congrats on getting your CDL.(and the high scores)

Answer:
I chose Roehl over TMC. TMC jerked around too much with playing phone tag, and being stupid.
Some stupid old lady left her neon in neutral, failed to set the brake, then jumped out of her car. She stood there shreiking as it rolled out of the parking lot, across the street, and into the bumper of my jeep, which was legally parked.
After work I found a note, and took the proper steps to have the damage repaired. It was only $40 though.
I clearly explained the situation on the application, but TMCs hiring department still went at me like it was somehow my fault. In the end they approved my app, but I figure if they are that big of jerks I would just as soon work elsewhere.

Answer:
Well, I start with TMC Monday (1 Dec)..in Des Moines, let ya know if something stinks...
I am new CDL holder also.
But drove alot in the service years ago... some Big Cars.

Answer:
decided to go with TMC. I start on 1 Dec as well but in Columbia. Roehl has no orientation for another 3 weeks, did not want to wait that long. I know TMC is strict, but I have just retired from the military after 20 1/2 years, so tough rules and regulations do not bother me. let you all know how it goes!

Answer:
Well, orientation was pretty painless, first 3 days were classroom, next day was paperwork, Fri - Sun (yes thru the weekend) was securement instruction, and the final 4 days were yard/road work.
Was on the road with trainer last week and caught allot of possible weather/road scenarios: Monday we loaded in IN coil steel was whiteout conditions between Des Moines and Omaha, but drove through it, Tuesday we unloaded and loaded for Mesa,AZ (30 mph winds on a Griffin pipe load)tough keeping that from weaving, after the mountain driving we arrived about 3pm to find out we had to wait till 7am to unload, loaded in Phoenix (some kind of lumber trim) made it home Friday night. Been at about max payload all runs.
Leaving in 3 hrs to complete the run to Toledo with 3 more drops in MI.
Hope the roads are better this next 3 days, I'm really getting broken in quick.
Gotta finish packing....
