What's wrong with this picture????
Question:
I just received my first paycheck from DownEast Energy. I only had 3 days for that pay period since, well, that was when I started. I am in "Training" for a couple weeks to get used to yanking a tanker (good God those are heavy loads, grossing 100,000lbs) and loading/unloading (I get caught up on my reading ) Anyhow. . .For those three days I take home $38 more than I did for Wolding working a WHOLE WEEK!, I only worked 30.75 hours (from the time I arrived at work 'till the time I left work) yet, with Wolding, I ran 15-18 hours/day, showing 10 hours on the book and got 3-5 hours sleep per night (day)! HELLO! What was I THINKING! This coming paycheck will be for a full 2 weeks. 4-10 hour days and the 5th day is pure time and a half! I project my next check to be (based on 2 weeks) to be more than TWICE as much as my Wolding checks! I have full bennies (and better bennies). They pay for my uniforms, boots, Winter insulated cover-alls( nice) and my Kenworth has 54,000 miles on it! The work is easy! I work from 2:30 pm until 12:30 am. If I get done with my scheduled hauls, I am done and still get my 10 hours pay. (What the heck is with that?) Or I can run another load to the Bulk plant, which I do since that squeezes in an extra hour or so of OT and I prefer to give a dollars work for a dollars pay. I'm waiting for the hammer to fall. If something seems to good to be true, it usually is! What's wrong with this picture? What am I missing? I know it can go KABOOM, but there are plenty of dead dryvan drivers out there that litterally "Worked Themselves to Death". I sleep in my own bed, eat meals at home, (use my own bathroom ) Oh, and get this. . . Weekends off, and that's CALENDAR days not those "24" hour days +/- (usually a -) Dodge Makes It, Cummins' Shakes It! www.TurboDieselRegister.com Tanker Yanker Answer: A few weeks ago you were blowing your piehole and whining about the 'negativity' towards OTR some people had, and how you were going to roar off and be about the best damn suckazz this industry has ever seen, all that 'Good Attitude' crap, then you began having snit fits about this and that, usually involving some company not kissing your wonderful azz properly, and now this. You're a frigging Psychotic. Take some pills. ___________________________ Humans are amazing creatures. Answer: Pills taken, feel better now. Let's see. . .Nothing has changed! Ah, I get it, DomDom is jeeaaallllooouuusss! How do you like me NOW!!! Pretty rich coming from someone who's "Special Interests" are Human Rights!" How about the right to be paid for your labor? You are mad because I found a job that does that, and realized what everyone here has been saying all along? This includes yourself! All those warnings about how they work you like dogs etc. etc. Now I agree with you and found a way out and I'm the psycho??? What side of the fence did you fall on today? Talk about needing pills. . . : Answer: 1 Iron you have not really impressed me much. My first impression of you on this board was complaining about the recruiter are Roehl. Then you were all about H.O.W. Then you attitude went south quicker then a blue hair headed for Southern Florida. Now you have this job. I hope it pans out for you and it stays as good as you claim. But I will not be suprised if you are not back in the forums in another month talking about another job change. You come across to me like a little child in the sand box. If it is not going exactly your way, you start crying and go home. Right now you are coming in the formums and flaunting your new job. But like I said, I give you a month, maybe 2. DRIVER BY CHOICE Buzzdog Answer: congradulations on waking up right away to the evils of OTR you where a true greenhorn and couldn't beleive it sucked as bad as many say it does and marched off to the slaughter like many before you did and many more will follow in your footsteps. at least you got the nuts to come back and take a few lumps and didn't stay in a loosing battle for years. ------------------------- 2000 miles at .42cpm=$840.00 3000 miles at .28cpm=$840.00 why do people drive 1000 miles for free?? There are much better Class "A" CDL jobs out there than just going OTR. Heck there are some better Cdl Class"B" jobs than a lot of thos OTR jobs I know I'll take a beating here, but hey, it's just info. Take it or leave it. Dodge Makes It, Cummins' Shakes It! www.TurboDieselRegister.com Tanker Yanker Answer: I've been driving local for the last two weeks. The pay is okay, but I go the same place every day. It's boring and tedious; no different than working in a cubicle, only more dangerous. I'm going OTR with Roehl next month. Answer: And I like it pretty much. Mon thru Fri, 8 hrs a day, O/T after eight, on call one night in ten. I drive a Bomb (propane residental delivery), full bennies for me and my wife( I do have a co-pay of $80/mo, but it is a good policy with low doc co-pays, and low deductiables, includes vision and dental. They pays not great, but with a few hrs O/T every couple of days, and being home every night, it works for me. OTR didn`t work so well.I listened to everyone here, tried OTR for almost a year, and found a decent local job. I`m happy and best of all MOMMA`S happy fishman Answer: Best of luck. Dodge Makes It, Cummins' Shakes It! www.TurboDieselRegister.com Tanker Yanker Answer: fishman, Are you driving a B truck? We have an A truck tor bulk Propane loads and the A truck drivers make a bit more than the peddle trucks and we aren't on call. January will be great if mother Nature does her thing. The Governor will waive his magic wand and we will be able to drive 12 hours/day for about a month. Woo Hoo! O/T central! That will go towards our vacation fund! Dodge Makes It, Cummins' Shakes It! www.TurboDieselRegister.com Tanker Yanker Answer: First congrats on the new job. I know of a few people who got lucky on local gigs after a few months OTR experience. Would you have gotten this new job without you H.O.W experience? Answer: Thanks Cessna. Actually the job was offered while I was still in school. Just was lead to believe that I would make more with Wolding. Especially with my tuition Reimbursement, "bonuses" etc. My road instructor in school liked what he saw and said he wouldn't normally take one straight out of school, but he liked what he saw. When I went through all the B.S. with the Wolding Pay while in orientation, I called him. He said I was welcome anytime. Now he's my boss Dodge Makes It, Cummins' Shakes It! www.TurboDieselRegister.com Tanker Yanker Answer: Hey, maybe now I can pay the bills off and start flying again! Wonder how much a small twin rents for these day A 172 would do me just fine for now though I'm partial to the Warriors and Arrows Aren't you hauling tankers now? Thought I remembered something about you heading in that direction. Dodge Makes It, Cummins' Shakes It! www.TurboDieselRegister.com Tanker Yanker Answer: many times if you put a calculator to it,your better off just paying the loan off at a higher paying job. $5,000.00 or $100.00 per week for 50 weeks about .04cpm would make the loan payment,so why stay at a low paying company when switching the first chance you get to another place that will in many cases more than make up for lossing the reimbursment. It don't make sense to stay at a .26cpm job just for the reimbursment, when your could switch to a .32 job that also offers better working conditions. or even taking a local job that pays the same or more per year as the first year OTR will more then take care of the student loan with the money you save on road expense, you could pay off the loan. ------------------------- 2000 miles at .42cpm=$840.00 3000 miles at .28cpm=$840.00 why do people drive 1000 miles for free?? Answer: ZigZag I plan to do just that. Through my school I chose Werner, even if their pay rates are lower than some of the other. If I stay 3 months a thousand dollars is taken off my loan, I plan to stay at least six month so when I do leave won't have to be with a trainer again. But I do like your advice about not staying with a low paying company because of your loan repayment, because if my math is correct would have to be with Werner for at least two years. But on the other hand if I would stay that time my out-of-pocket would only be about $1,600. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
