Question:
Just got off the phone interview with Schneider. Have interview with Roehl next week on Thursday A.M. Pretty sure I've made my decision ~whispers~ (roehl) I would like to say Thank You to "IBStrollin" for the email he sent to me today regarding Roehl. It answered just about all the questions I have had at this point. I will try and call him later personally to thank him and chew the fat. Anyone else that has some good sound advice I welcome your emails or posts. "Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they have made a difference to this world, The Marines don't have that problem" ~ Ronald Reagan Answer: Well, I heard from Roehl...I think her name was Sarah, from when she visited us and I was turned off by her demeanor. The info she gave was quite "take it or leave it" and very impolite, ie: she threw cards and payscale handouts to us...I mean literally "threw". I personally took this as an insult, as I figured if this is a rep of the company.....no thanks. Answer: "The info she gave was quite "take it or leave it" and very impolite, ie: she threw cards and payscale handouts to us...I mean literally "threw". =================================================== This is only part of the reason many experienced drivers recommend smaller carriers. I'll never work for any of these large carriers. I worked for [Heart-less] Express 2 days. I saw and heard enough in those 2 short days to last me a lifetime. Unbelievable would be an understatement! Prior to [Heart-less] Express, I've always worked with smaller trucking companies. I never went to truck driving school or had a trainer, I was grandfathered in. I feel for the new drivers coming into this business. Their stuck for the most part with the large carriers for training. Spending upwards of thousands of dollars for school, only to get shackled with limited choices in training carriers. None of the training carriers are worth a pot to pi$$ in. Answer: I agree with Dak1 Answer: Well, I heard from Roehl...I think her name was Sarah, from when she visited us and I was turned off by her demeanor I have to disagree. Sarah came to our school in Granite City and was the nicest of the recruiters we had. Maybe she had a bad day. We are all entitled to them. I hope you don't write Roehl off because of the way the recruiter gave you literature. One thing about Roehl that I have noticed recently with their lack of class dates due to the amount of students, is that they must have a reputation of being a decent carrier if they don't have enough trainers for all of the students, or that they don't just "team" you with a trainer. Sarah came to our school in Granite City and was the nicest of the recruiters we had. Maybe she had a bad day. We are all entitled to them. Maybe she WASN'T having a bad day UNTIL she got there! Answer: Sarah was my recruiter. I will say this about her, she will tell you the whole truth. If you had a bad experience with her, dont judge the Roehl as a company based on that. I just found out that the training at Roehl is going to be changing. I do not have definative dates on this. Gone is the term "phase" and in is the new and improved term "evolution".....weeeeeeee Training will go like this at Roehl. Evolution 1: Ten days with a trainer. Trainer goes home, student goes home. Evolution 2: Ten days with a trainer, not necessarily the same trainer as evolution 1. Trainer goes home, student goes hom. Evolution 3: Repeat of Evolution 2. At the end of Evolution 3 student will be assigned truck and begin solo driving. Gone is the period of sticking 2 new drivers together for 20 days. This was Phase 2 of the old system. IMHO this was the worst part of my training. While in concept it may seem good on paper it was horrible. You take 2 individuals that SHOULD be at the same level and stick them together. There is usually always a strong one and a weak one. The weak one has a hard time taking any type of input or critisim from the other driver. This is not the case when you have a TRAINER and a STUDENT. That creates well defined rolls. I personally think this will be a better system of getting a new driver trained and acclimated to the career. One of the major reasons of this change is to get the students home on a regular basis while they are going through training. DRIVER BY CHOICE Buzzdog Answer: I'm real glad to see that take place. IMHO I also thought it kind of an ignorant way to train anybody. And I have seen these guys pi$$ing and moaning and quitting and abandoning trucks. If this guy is getting bent out of shape about the recruiters "attitude" maybe he should look at another industry. Damn get over it. Move on--you'll only meet them once and then move on to nicer people. When I went in for orientation, they could'nt be nicer. I'm seriously thinking of going with Roehl's 7/3 7/4 fleet. Out 7 days then 3 home then out 7 days and 4 home. Only downside is finding someone in my area to share trucks with. Going to check it out more. I was talking to one driver that is on it and he's averaging 2800 mi. per week with mostly dropping in drop yards/terminals. Would'nt be too bad. Better to have it and not need it as need it and not have it!Just remember:If the world did'nt suck, you'd fall off!
