Answer:
Both of you have very good points!
Run a firewall, run a good virus scanner and update it weekly, update your Windows at least monthly, do ALL the critical updates and service packs. Last but certainly not least is do NOT share any media from your machine, like drives, printers etc.
Wi/Fi is everywhere, I can drive my car around my sub, the shopping center or strip mall and regularly get a signal strong enough to connect to there network, most I tell but they never do anything about the open hole, they will not learn till they lose all there data..

I confess I know little about WiFi,I haven't needed it but in the future I will be traveling more with my job and although most better hotels/motels have internet hookups and some even provide internet service. I have been places where the provider I use does not have access numbers for that area. Will this be a problem with Wi/Fi? And does Wi/Fi have the so called blank spots like cell phone services have at times. That place where you just can not get a signal. Kind of like the area 51 of Wi/Fi!<lol>

I would strongly suggest people go to Steve Gibson's web site at www.grc.com. Run "shields up" and port scanner from his site.
I have a problem with the wireless sprint card and IP address identifier through wireless. Although I use Zone Alarm pro 4 and 2004 Norton anti-virus, Fixit utilities anti-virus, Spybot software, Evidence Eliminator software, everything is updated including windows XP.
There is a problem with wireless and an IP address/computer identifier plus a possible geographical locator situation.
I've been to Steve Gibson's web site, ran full checks on my computer. Everything comes up "stealth"..
Except the wireless IP problem. Steve Gibson says this may be something I cannot do anything about.
Do a Shields up check on your computer and see if your IP address is giving out an identifier for your computer. He has a window explaining this with your IP address.

Wi/Fi is a localized form of a network, meaning it does not have the coverage of even one cell phone tower has, it does have dropouts under it’s “umbrella” of coverage but it mostly depends on what’s in the envelope with it, like a mass of metal, a big dirt hill if your outside and walls etc. The Wi/Fi signal acts upon obstructions just like the signal of your CB radio does, but again it doesn’t cover anywhere near the area.
Something I forgot to add to my list of stuff to do to make yourself safe is that under Windows XP there are two user accounts that are normally ignored by the casual owner, the “Guest” and “Administrator” accounts, you can safely disable the guest account but throw a password on the administrator account in case U need to get access to your puter via safe-mode. All operating systems should have a password on all accounts while on an unsecured network like Wi/Fi, so check your PC guys and gals..
