Trucking Myth Number 237 or is it 238...oh well I forget....
Question:
Anyway the myth I am talking about is the one that says that if you run at night (between 11 pm and 6am) that you don't have to worry about log book checks, DOT ispections, etc except in California and during the June blitz. Well folks I am here to tell you. That is one myth you can take to the garbage dump and toss with the rest of the trash. While there seems to be less of a chance of you getting nailed for not having you log book up to date, or getting a full blown DOT inspection it can still happen anytime, anywhere. A good reminder of this came to me in the wee hours Tues morning. 8 state troopers set up doing level 1 DOT inspections in an IL scale house, in the rain, at 3am. Also they shut off the pre-pass and the bypass and EVERY truck that came rolling along had to cross the platform scales. So the lessons here boys and girls is. Be prepared. Do your job, do your pre and post trip inspections, keep that log book up to date cause you never know when you number may come up and you get looked at real hard. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: On 11/02/03. It was 0200 on Sunday morning. I was about 20 miles north of Effinghan Illinois. The red and Blue lights came on behind me. I was running a little over but not much. I thought I was getting a speeding ticket. I pulled over and the State tropper came up. I asked him "whats up". He said he just wanted to do a random level 3 or 1 I can't remember what one it was, check. I said ok. He checked my reg, insurance, lic, medical card. Then asked if my log book was in order. I told him it was a few hours behind. I forgot to mark down my dinner brake in Mt vernon. He said he didn't need to see it then. He asked me to leave all my lights on (had hazards on all ready". I was told to wait in the truck for 5 mins, then come back to the car.(I think this was to get the old book in order. I went back to the car. He had me sign the inspection sheet. Gave me a copy. No violations found and I was on my way. He was very nice to deal with.202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: 20 miles north of Effingham. You were almost sitting in my living room. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: About 2 weeks ago was running down I65. Was kind of suprised to see the little word out at the house. As I pulled in I was even more suprised to see a TN DOT officer on the platform checking books as the drivers were going through the scales. Did not have a problem, book was up to date. He just quickly glanced at it and then sent me on my way. Something that is said over and over, keep your book up to date with the last change of duty status, and keep it NEAT. I do not have the best hand writing in the world, but when ever I make a note in the remarks I always take my time when I write it to make sure it is neat, clean, and legible. I also have found that it is best to use a FINE POINT ball point pen. I like the Zebra 402 myself. I use a metal ruler to draw the lines. Picked it up at Wally world. It is just the right size and has a cork backing on it, so it is spaced enough off of the paper and does not slide around. DRIVER BY CHOICE Buzzdog Answer: I like sleeping at night!! However I did get a full inspection in Virginia one crisp morning. Passed with flying colors, even was commended on the neatness of my logbook. Not bad for a rookie! Answer: Very busy at night in Michigan lately. I went to the north side of Detroit and delivered and then went to Clinton MI to P/U. Saw 4 or 5 DOT cops checking out trucks on 94 in the wee hrs. And also the scale on US 12 was open and doing inspections. Seemed to me they were stopping a lot of covered wagons and checking load securement for steel coils. When I pulled on the scale on 12, a cop was standing next to the platform, and asked for my log, looked at where my straps were spaced and waved me on. So they are looking at night. Better to have it and not need it as need it and not have it!Just remember:If the world did'nt suck, you'd fall off! The more I see and read about Republicans and Democrats, the more I wish we had an Independent Party. IMPEACH BUSH!!!!!!!!!! Answer: Anybody see that article I think it was in Truckers News about trucker tales? I thought it was pretty good. The one about some driver is going to call the US Marshal Service about hiring a lumper or making them unload/breakdown product. I heard that one again at the counter at Flying J the other night. Had to grin/shake my head. And I keep hearing about some cop waking them up in a rest area to do a DOT inspection. Won't happen--unless you're illegaly parked. And last but certainly not least the one about CT requiring white sheets on your bunk/and the bunk made. Ya' gotta love 'em!!! Better to have it and not need it as need it and not have it!Just remember:If the world did'nt suck, you'd fall off! The more I see and read about Republicans and Democrats, the more I wish we had an Independent Party. IMPEACH BUSH!!!!!!!!!! Answer: Here's one I've heard, and wondered if it's true or not... Supposedly the way New York enforces the DOT rules regarding having a television in your truck, is that if you can turn your head and see the screen of the TV - it's a violation. But, if you have the bunk curtains closed - it's not a violation, beacuae you can't see the screen. Anyone? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Donnas Answer: Here is a new one, I think I made it up.. hehe I hear the scales houses are going to start doing "panty checks". Yup they are bound and determined to find that driver that keeps whispering into the CB, "I ain't got no panties on". So, get your clean set out for passing the scale houses...
