preparing for downgrades
Question:
The manual says that you are supposed to downshift before you get to a downgrade, but isn't it hard to always tell that there's a downgrade coming up? Thanks. Thanks. Sgns have been put up at most if not all the truck approved roads with downgrades. The signs will give you plenty of warning, and tell you what the grade is in %, and for how long it is. They will generally tell you what the truck speed limit is going to be (which is usually way too fast for a fully loaded truck). Answer: I always use the simple math technique in order to find then right gear for the down grade, for instance, if you have a super 10 and you are approaching a 3 degree I subtract 3 from 10 and i will hit 7th gear for the down grade, and etc...etc... maybe its not the right way but its always worked for me, so keep an eye for the signs and be ready, Answer: hi high eway man i noticed that youtr from southern ill me to small world a dr Answer: Which is far better than slowing too late!! Just throw on those four way flashers and be in two gears lower than you came up in. You'll have a bigger margin of error. The rule used to be to go down in the gear you climbed up in. But with the more powerfull engines nowdays its suggested one gear less. And as you havent seen downgrades yet I suggest two until you devolop a feel for coming down under various loads. TC You can ALWAYS go down a mountain or around a corner too slow. You might not live through the first time too fast Answer: Thanks everyone for your help!
