Hey all,
Well I filled out some online training apps at several web sites and once I was contacted directly by one of the recruiters (a Schneider rep) I found I may have porked myself out of the trucking biz. You see, I have some felonies on my record, four to be exact, I used to hang out with a bad crowd many years ago but once I spent my first few days in jail I was a changed man, I dumped my druggie looser buds them promptly moved my rump away from the town they lived in. All this happened back in 1986, I served out a one year state bid and never went back..!!
The Schneider rep told me I would have to call another place to get some sorta felony pass thingie or something from Canada before they can even think about training me.. So, I call the number they provided and I tell the really nice lady my problems and she more or less told me I would never get a pass to enter Canada with my past convictions, she said she could still investigate them for 100 bux and snail-mail me with the results but she said it may be a waste of money..
So my dilemma, do I continue to pursue my want to become a truck driver even though most companies may not hire me or do I just give up and find something else to do..?? With all the combined knowledge here somebody has to have some insight on how hard it would be for me to get a nice stable well paying truck driving job with my background.
This is the first time in over ten years my past even came close to ruining my chance at a good job, most places only wanted to go back five years so I sorta lied about my convictions after I was past the five year mark, the apps I filled out online asked if I EVER had felony convictions so I answered honestly..

There are carriers that will hire someone with a felony, but, largely, will require it to be of a "minor" nature, in other words, not rape or murder or the like. Carriers that go into Canada won't hire you, because as you have already found out, Canada won't allow "felons", no matter how old their "crime" is. One carrier that I wouldn't recommend, CR England has hired felons, tho, they could not go to Canada.
AS for Schneider, they chronicly go into Canada, so, these cards are stacked against with this carrier.
Have you tried looking for a small carrier? Usually, the smaller ones are much better than the large carriers. They pay better, too.

Two of my convictions are from borrowing a couple cars and never returning them, the last two are a couple golf carts I hot wired so me and a bud would not have to walk home from a party..
From what I have read here England is not the best co. to work for, but beggers can not be choosers right, I made the mistakes so I have to live with it..

If you do go to work for C R England, save yourself the heartache and trouble. DO NOT.........I repeat.........DO NOT enter into any kind of a Lease / Purchase Agreement with these crooks!

Stay away from England. As a matter of fact, stay away from any large carrier. Your best bet will be to try to get on with a small "mom and pop" operation. As I told another poster here a few weeks ago, when you deal with a large company, you are just a number on a piece of paper.

felonies are Swift and its "sister" company Central Refridgerated. You may also want to contact Trans AM as I think they may also hire felonies providing they are over 10 years old.

I know a guy that got out of prison 9 months ago for the same thing you got busted for and just went to work for Transport America.

In another post you state your going to work for Swift,yet in here you elude to the recruiter for Swift stating they hired murderers. Yet your going to go ahead and sign on with Swift.
But you also state your "fear" is that someone might "get you" and you won't feel safe out there on the road. Your a contradiction in terms.

Gearjammer,I am asking her a question. If she considers it so dangerous out there and that shes hearing that Swift is hiring murderers,then why go into a business that she has fear that she will get hurt in. It's an honest,straightforward question.
