Bling Bling
Question:
Have my application in with Roehl, should hear something this week. Fella told me next class in Marshfield will be around the 17th but possibly Dec 1 after Turkey Day. Really looking forward to this new adventure, after spending my time in the CROTCH (USMC) I think I can deal but I know it will take some time.
How much $$ does the average throttle jockey take for a few weeks to cover expenses. I can scrimp pretty good in regards to chow and personal gear, but what about costs like tolls, lumpers etc.. I would really like to know since I will need to plan a budget. Thought I'd ask so I don't get there and not have Bling Bling to cover something.
NOVEMBER 10 - HAPPY 228th. to any and all Marines, Jarheads, Leathernecks and Gyrenes out there.
To everyone else keep the rubber down and may you all get home soon.
Ooh-rah

Answer:
You should receive a cash advance for tolls, minor truck expenses, etc.. Check with your recruiter to see if Roehl uses EZPass for tolls or issues state toll cards. Lumpers are normally paid with a ComCheck (or similar), not with cash.
Personal expenses will include food, laundry, drinks, cigarettes, etc.. A safe bet is to figure $10 per sit down meal you consume at a truck stop. Most Pilots, and some T/As, have fast food franchises on the premises and only you know how many tacos you'll need. Snacks, drinks, cigarettes, etc., will be priced similar to what you find at your local convenience store. Hope that helps.
Oh, yeah: The only good marine is a submarine.

Answer:
Your trainer will be the one, more than likely, who deals with the money for tolls, scales, etc, but as stated already you will (or should) be able to draw cash advances to cover any company expeditures that you are unable to cover with a comcheck (checks issued by the company) or have placed on the fuel card.
With Roehl for the first 4 weeks all you will need to worry about is covering your personal expenses like food, cigs, etc.
By the time your second 4 weeks roll around you will know all the procedures for how to handle tolls, lumpers, etc. However if you are wanting to know before hand feel free to ask the recruiter.
I will always be a mutter trucker at heart.
Answer:
You could of course take cash advances for money you'll need OTR but I wouldn't unless you have to. Cash advances are not free. You will pay to use your own money on company business. I never took advances or very seldom. I always took cash out of the bank to take along for tolls etc. I also rarely take cash out using ATM's. The $1.00 to $3.00 fees are just to much.
You'll be able to plan more for the cost after or during OTR training. Then you'll know how much to take along. For now I would and do take about $300 for my own living exspenses. If your out longer than planned or spend money foolishly you may run out. But thats what I take with me. I usually have some left over and bring it home when I'm done. Often thats my fishing money when I get back. I like waisting money on my favorite things, OTR spending isn't one of them.

Answer:
The easiest way to get cash is to take advantage of Wal-Mart. when you pull in to do your shopping, pay for your food with your debit card and accept cash back. Your bank won't charge any kind of ATM fee for this type of transaction.
This is a lot easier than getting your truck through the drive-through ATM. LOL
