Grand Island Contract Carriers
Question:
Grand Island Contract Carriers, they are a flatbed company out of Grand Island, NE., with 70 trucks and 140 trailers. 95% of their out-bound freight is through their parent company "Cheif", right in Grand Island. They have two terminals: Grand Island (of course) and one in Rensselaer, IN. (off I-65 between Chicago/Gary, and Indy). Their website claims "out 8 to 14 days"(turnarounds to Grand Island); ClassADrivers profile says "time away from home= 7 to 10 days" The benefits are pretty good: $51.75 per week (family) for Health/Dental/Vision combined ($500 deductable, 80/20 to $4,000, 100% after that-Health) (Diagnostic and preventable 100% paid, no deductable, basic restoration 70% paid, no deductable-Dental) (Vision has no literature) Pay for experience: .32 to .33 (for me), with quarterly bonus' at .01 for safety, .01 for performance, .01 for Fuel. Extra stops are $15 Tarp pay is $30 Detention pay (at Cheif facility only) is $8 per hr. Equipment is 99' or newer Classic XL Mid-Roofs, with Quall Comm. And spread axle 48 footers. They also have all your other bennies that just about anyone else offers. i.e.- vacation, holiday, layover, break down, 401K etc...etc... They took first place in safety in the Continental Flatbed Carrier Class for 2002 and 2003. And other various statistics like these. This is what I know of them; can anyone tell me anything more, or find some dirt on them. Everything I've read has been good about them this can't be can it?---there has got to be some dirt some where. Just too good to be true Any way I am looking at them closely---I'd like to get back into flatbed (please do not recommend other flatbed companies to me). I am happy with the company I am currently with, my checks are always right (paid on the hub), and they have been nothing but pleasant to me. They are the same size as Grand Island Contract Carriers, but the benefits are nowhere near as good, and they were in the process of weening out the few flatbeds they have (that I actually signed on to pull) and forced me to pull vans. Since I am happy I do not have to move on, but I'm getting the flatbed fever. The reason I don't want you to say "hey White Dog; try TMC etc..." is because I want to concentrate on one company (GICC), because they fit a lot of what I would look for---and I've already started researching them If I want to research a company that one of you drives for, I could run a search here at Truck.Net and get it all...GICC comes up with nothing on these boards. Just wondering if anyone has ran into their drivers and chit-chatted. I have'nt yet. _________________________ Cover Your Cans People!!!It's apparent this place is never going to change....then again; why should it? It gets the clientel it deserves.
