Question:
I notice alot of woman drivers runnin up and down those highways and interstates that just look terrible why do they do it to themselfs i will never understand and they wear big lumberjack clothes like did they lose interest in themselfs which i think is very sad.granted i know what it is like to be on the road away from home i also know what it is like to not give up on your appearance i think it is very sad can someone tell me why some women have to be like the men drivers who just dont give a hell about what they look like.

Some people, whether it be male or female, have no respect for themselves or the way they look.
You don't have to wear dress pants and shirts, but you can dress respectably.
Jeans (with NO HOLES), a decent T shirt or button down shirt (again NO HOLES), and boots that aren't wore out works for me.

Have to respond to this post. As my daughter and I were just discussing the other day clothes for me on the road. She wanted to put me in sweats(for warmth) I veto'd that one right off the bat. Why cause I am a jeans,tee-shirt,sleeveless shirt,or tank type shirt,if chilly worn with a flannel or jeans shirt open over it. I have worn clothes like that since I could pick out my own clothes. In the heat of the summer on the school bus I could be found in tank shirt,shorts or a sundress.
Now I am a big woman..5'7" and 210. Any idea how hard it is to find functional clothes for a person my size? Without going to the mens section and getting lumberjack looking clothes. Beside they are functional and warm. I refuse to spend 2 arms and 3 legs on a frilly blouse, or a really nice sweater to have it ruined with 5th wheel grease. This is where..a pair of overhauls will come in for pretrips, etc...
My hair is very long, very curly, very wavy and a load of it. Will my hair be styled every day..nope..it will be pulled back into a ponytail or put up on my head. Will I put makeup on everyday. Hell no..I dont even wear makeup now when going on a date. I have worn makeup maybe 4 times in the last 5 years. Will my nails have polish? At very least yes..clear(to try and protect them)..or if I can get them long again, a deep color. Will I still wear my rings and bracelets that I wear every day now? Yes until the callius's get bad again cause of the rings and the steering wheel.
I have no-one that I feel I need to impress or look good for other than me,and surely I don't need to impress on the road. I will look presentable, and clean(I hope most times). I can still wear my functional clothes and feel feminine inside. There are ways to do that.

Answer:
Good hygiene for anyone is a must! Functional but clean clothing is suffice. I am not a trucker,I work in a capacity where wearing the frills and bows will not work.(The suits and dresses are saved for dates or the occasional court appearances) My clothing is loose,comfortable but clean.
I keep coveralls in my car or carry a set in the morgue van,as well as a pair of high top
sneakers or work boots,I won't wear my street clothes and shoes when I am on a scene. If I am out on a scene I change to these clothes and change back to my street clothes after I am done working the scene.
I don't see why a driver can not do the same,when and if thye have to do any extensive work on their rig.
No woman or man has to sacifice their personal hygiene. I can't think of any job out there that asked this!
Some have no pride in themselves have poor hygiene habits or they have never been taught this. Yes,there are those that grow up not knowing how to groom themselves.

Many female drivers get leered at by the truckers who are barely evolved from gorillas, and dress sloppily so the louts will leave them alone.

You said it Bearbell! I also where men's clothing in the winter, tee-shirts and tanktops in warm weather. These types off clothing are cheaper to replace than the pretty frilly stuff. I save my pretty clothes for when I go out on the town with my HUSBAND. I also don't wear nail polish, hair is style in a ponytail. I also wear work boots, not HIGH HEELS when I'm driving.

Since I stop wearing girlie clothes I have been left alone from every Tom, Dick, and Harry out there. What I wear for my job has nothing to do with self respect, for me it is protection because my work hours are at night from 4:00 pm to as late as 3:00 am.

i have to say i was planning on being as feminine as possible because i thought it would make me feel better but after reading this i don't know. Geez louise its THAT BAD!!! i guess the reason i didn't believe people when they told me that is because i have been in truckstops many times and i've never even had a guy talk to me. they smile at me maybe but i've never been harrassed. maybe your just really beautiful kidd.

I was not referring to the ladies that wear "functional" clothing in order to do your job,I am referring to the ones that crawl out of the truck in 5x size sweats and house slippers and believe it or not can smell just as bad as some of these "showerless wonders" with kickstand(guys)
I also fully understand the defense posture too,and Lori,It has nothing to do with your looks,all they gotta hear is a female voice on the CB and most of these idiots start "Humping the air" and saying all kinds of foul crap

I for one will always look and act like a Lady..
Don't dress like a lot lizzard nor do I dress like a bag lady..But I have changed the way I dress over the years of trucking..I always do something with the hair and yes I do wear makeup but not for anyone else to look at but for me..
Some days are better than others it all depends on the load and the time that I have to get it there..
And as far as the CB Horndogs I try not to talk to much on the raido anymore. I have the voice that is soft and to sweet even when I have a attitude the voice is icky sweet..You should here my answering machine, I've been told to many times that I should work for one of those 900 numbers

well i know i m not a skinny chick but i m not no heffer either but i will say i dont dress nice for a guy to look at me i do it for myself it makes me feel good i know sometimes i dont do nothing at all and personally i really dont care what anyone says i stop for a shower at the very least every 2nd day and sometimes that seems too long i do paint my nails and wear pretty girl clothes i dont think that just cuz we are doing a mans job that we have to look like them.

AMEN!!!! wearing nice clothes makes you feel better and for me no matter what guys are saying i'm going to wear what i feel good in. why would you buy clothes that you don't like? nothing against anyone who does. wear what your comfortable in but i think, especially doing a "macho" job, being feminine will make you feel pretty and give you a "break" from the "machoness".
