Daily Express, Inc percent pay Questions
Question:
Daily Express in a heavy haul flatbed company specializing in legal, oversized, and super loads. Thay have five-axle to nineteen-axle equipment. Run all 48 states and Canada. Base compensation is: 21.5% of gross sharable revenue. 21.5% of billed stop-offs. 21.5% of collected detention charges. $15.00 per 20 X 20 tarp. This is in their packet that was sent to me. Writen in pen under Current Average Pay is .40-.45 cent per Mile. Question: Does this sound good to you drivers or not? I don't know how the percentage pay is figured but this company is willing to train me in OD loads after I complete driving school. One last thing. I think this company averages between 85,000 and 100,000 a year but I'm not sure. I'm taking this from what it says about bonus pay if you run more then 85.000 miles a year and from someone on this board who hauls heavy loads. Thanks to everyone thats been anwsering all my questions on this board I'm slowly reducing my list of prospective employers. Thanks. I don't know how the percentage pay is figured but this company is willing to train me in OD loads after I complete driving school. I'd ask them: How much detention do they actually bill never mind collect? I think that 21.5% of Sweet F*** All is still Sweet F*** All! Answer: gross sharable revenue Picture this. Revenue: Blank $'s They pay for the fuel, they pay for OS/OD permits, they pay for......etc......, and what is left they will share with you 21.5% of it. (that is how I read it) 21.5% of billed stop-offs. 21.5% of collected detention charges First of all; are they going to show you each week what has been billed, and what has been recieved? I think not. Owner/Operator maybe, because it would be agreed upon in the Lease, but a company driver---you will never know what the whole amount of these extras are That is why they word it "billed stop-offs", so when you get nothing they can tell you they got nothing (21.5% of zero is zero) That is why they word it "collected detention", so when you get nothing they can tell you they got nothing (21.5% of zero is zero) When you deadhead, there is nothing on the trailer, therefore the revenue for those miles is zero (21.5% of zero is zero) See where I'm going with this???? EVERYBODY; STAY AWAY FROM PERCENTAGE PAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For some Owner/Operators, it can work out good----it is NEVER good for a company driver. NEVER! _________________________ Cover Your Cans People!!!It's apparent this place is never going to change....then again; why should it? It gets the clientel it deserves. Bette Midler Answer: Unless I am the one negotiating the rate, then I dont want nuthing to do with percentage!! You gotta be skeptical about they way they wrote that brochure....."billed" "collected" etc etc. It just sounds fishy to me,also think about this....if you get somewhere with a multi-axle load and there is no reload, will they pay you for the deadhead?? The reason most OD/multi-axle freight pays sooo well is because a lot of times their is considerable deadhead involved(which the carrier more or less figures into the total rate, but are YOU as a driver getting any of that?) If you want to go totally OD you are pretty limited, and the question you need to ask any company you might be interested in,is how quick can you can expect a reload(unless you enjoy sitting at truckstops) Combined Transport out of Center Point,Or. has a heavy haul fleet and at one time they paid a salary to their company drivers(dont know if they still do)I wanna say it was in the $850-900 a week range. If you wanna haul equipment(caterpillar,John Deere etc etc) give Keen a call thats all they do and they pay pretty good(problem is most of their freight is east of the Ms. river ) They do quite a bit of OD but it is not an everyday thing.
