6 Month Speed Bump
Question:
I seem to be hitting this right now. I have been driving for 6 months now. I remember my trainer warning me about this. I still enjoy driving. It is the other issues that come with the job that are starting to wear on me a little. The long days. Sitting at a customer or job sight for hours. Grabbing something to eat when ever you get a chance, not when you are actually hungry. Being lied to by dispatch. Waiting on some mechanic at a terminal to do a job that should only take half the time because he sit's and shoots the crap with someone in the office for half the night. This is trucking. I knew this coming in. I have been running hard since I started. I know this is a contributing factor in my current mind set. I have told my fleet manager that I want to slow down just a bit, and try to get into more of a routine as far as home time. I do not plan on quitting. It is against my nature to quit anything. This is just something that all new drivers, and those that are considering starting this job should consider. You will have to deal with times that you feel like you are hitting a wall. It is very important that you recognize this or the situation will only become worse. This job is not all peaches and cream. DRIVER BY CHOICE Buzzdog Answer: Buzzdog is right. Once you find yourself falling into a rut, it's time to make changes. Even if they're only little changes. Getting 'burnt out' is not fun. That's when you get careless. Slow down a bit, change the way you run, maybe take a whole 3 days IN A ROW off once a month. Improvise, adapt, and overcome! ******************************* "Got the bird dog on... When I first starting driving I was driving as a team and it didn't work out and then I went solo and went with another company....I remember my first week with them and the long days and waiting for 6 to 8 hrs at the docks and thinking what am I doing....but you know what...this is the best field that you can be in...you have to have it in your heart. If you don't, this is only my thought...it's not going to work for you....It's a hurry up and wait business and when you think about that it will work for you....It's worth it in my eyes...I am a female driver and love it and always will...Well I hope I do Be Safe out there Answer: That is my internal alarm telling me,"time to take a week off" which I promptly do and it puts me back on track everytime CD "I dont like small cars or real big women, but somehow I always find my self in 'em" (Kid Rock) recovering dweller..........oilfield trash division Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
