Today was my first day of truck driving school. We were in school for about 2 hours. We went over how to use a log book, schools rules and regulations, and went out and instructor showed us the truck that we will be using during school. The truck is a 1993 Volvo with a Detroit engine and 13 speed transmission. It has seat in the back to seat 3-4 students. They showed us a demonstration with a toy tractor trailer on how to back, turn corners and some other movements. We were also given some homework, we have to read the first 6 chapters in our school book. The book is called “Trucking Tractor Trailer Driver Handbook /Workbook. It is a PTDI Certified book. When we where all done everyone had a physical and drug screen. I was nervous as I’ve been checking my blood pressure at one of the local stores and its been reading high, about 155-165 over 75-95. Had it checked at my physical and it was 122/78. I was relieved. When I was done with the physical I went back and turned in my physical long form to the school. We don’t have to go back to school until Monday, November 10, 2003. After this we will be going every day for 11 hours, including breaks.
I will try to keep the board updated on how it is going. They also said that so far they haven't had anyone fail their driving test to get the license. We only have four people in our class. Three from Ohio and one from Michigan. He will get to watch us take our tests. I'm not sure if we will get to watch him. Thanks I'll keep ya posted. -->
