Reefer; Dry Van; American Eagle; FFE
Question:
First, a question: What is the attraction for Reefer when so many times one has a live load or unload? I'm fascinated by the reefer and think that there may be more steady freight, but grocery warehouses are a drag. Drop and hook is so much better. All y'all talk about only a couple of big companies. Have any of you checked out American Eagle or FFE in Dallas? They are awesome. I went through OTR training with AE, but left one week short of going solo because I just wasn't prepared for the loss of income. The 8 weeks OTR training was boring, but very easy. Except, my trainer never let me drive during the day. I took over in the evening and he went to bed until the morning. This started on the first day. I sure would have liked to drive during the day somewhere. I'll get back into driving in March when I have saved enough to do this right. AE does a lot of PA to CA runs for Johnson and Johnson (Neutregena out of Los Angeles). I-40 all the way until I-81 in TN. I never knew TN could have so much rain or that it could snow everytime I drove through Flagstaff. Anyway, I wanted to post something. Thanks. Answer: I have checked out FFE intesively. I like what they have to offer. I am 95% sure I will be attending there school in Fordyce, AK by the summer. It's sad that you didn't make it to being solo. Hey, if life throws you a curve ball, try and take a swing at it. Who knows what might happen Answer: It isn't sad that I didn't finish up. Just a great lesson in being prepared for such a big change in life. I'm doing this as an empty nester and my goal is to have all obligations taken care of before I embark on this path again. For me to become a truck driver now is to leave the comfort of a job that gets me home every night and that pays me more than I can make trucking. But, since that's what I want, that's what I'll do.
