Question:
Does anyone know of any good companies for newbies that hire out of the Montreal area? I haven't gone to a school or anything yet, I'm just trying to do my research now so that I have a better idea of companies to look at when the time comes.
Any info is greatly appreciated and in case anybody asks, I already asked this question at Trucknet.ca and I didn't really get an answer.

Answer:
There are two that I am aware of... Robert Transport and Highland Transport.
I'm not sure if Robert hire drivers directly, however I know with Highland they only go through an agency for their drivers.

Actually pacman my soon-to-be wife lives in quebec which is why immigrating here. Actually, I'm in southwestern Quebec.
Anyway, appreciate the info and I will definately check out those companies. And as far as agencies go, any thoughts or recommendations?

Swift is begging for Candian drivers. They provide the training. Schneider was hireing them, not sure if they still do.
If you get a chance go to a truck stop and get the Candian Road Pro, or other free trucker magazines. The companies advertise in them. Good luck.202 N Main Street

There are US companies that hire Canadians also.
they hire if youre in ontario since they dont have any terminal here in montreal...
in ontario there is werner,swift,schneider,celadon,if you live in quebec they dont hire you,they dont have freight here so they cant bring you back,that's why i told him those comp...

Try SGT they had a very good traing program going a few years ago.
KRISKA is looking for trainees as well , train in PRESCOTT Ontario but would work out of Montreal terminal
ERB Transport has openings for Montreal yard as well. Also C A T are looking for drivers.

if you want to be layover every load ,with no maintenance on trailers ,doing interstate,and be gone more than 20 days ,with errors on pay check every time ,i dont think you want that,they have the worst turn over i have ever seen,and it's l.t.l. you will go with 20-30 drops,forget about them
before that i worked 6 month with cat they have new t2000,but you will start with mack ch613,slip seating every time you come back,but alot of laredo loads,and there biggest client is goodyear so it's driver unload paid after 4 hrs,they want you gone for 20 days,you will do a east coast first than they send you to laredo,the pay check is the worst in the industry 26c per miles for drvr

sgt are fully paying back the driving course,if you stay 2 years with them,they have alot of east coast too
kriska and xtl are paper haulers heavy but fast to load and unload with almost no touch freight,alot of east coast too,
was with xtl for 2 years liked it alot,drivers do not slipseat you bring youre truck with you,take 2 weeks off the truck is with you,they haul east of mississipi....
i dont know about erb only that they are reefer haulers,alot of old guys are driving with them for over 25 years maybe look at it,if you dont mind the reefer thing

ERB hauls both REEFER and dryvan, they do a lot of PROCTOR GAMBLE out of Brockville , and HERSHEY CHOCLATE in Smith Falls Ontario , have good equipment and good pay.
KRISKA hauls a lot more than just paper , they have dryvans , reefers and some flatbeds.
SGT haul a lot to TEXAS / MEXICO
You can also try LAIDLAW they are looking for drivers for all the new 379 PETES they bought.
