And the #1 reason to LOCK YOUR TRUCK is.........
Question:
Someone may steal it! DATELINE TAMPA FL (2 hours ago): I was letting my dog run for a bit. I noticed a Mack (bobtail) backing out of the spot next to my truck. Didn't think nothing of it. A little later the entire staff (I think), of the J came out and stood in front of the parkinglot that had parked next to me. 15 minutes later, they go back inside. About an hour later I walked in to the truckstop to get some beer. I found out the guy had parked and gone inside to get a shower and someone STOLE HIS TRUCK in the short time he was inside! Doesn't take but a minute to open a locked door. A fix for 1 & 2 is the Truck Club. The Truck Club is highly visable and a deterent for truck thieves. Option 2 is a simple chain and padlock. The chain can be wrapped around any item in the cab close to the steering wheel and the pad lock used to secure the steering wheel. Of course it does hamper entry and exit into the cab from the driver's side. Food for thought, vehicle security has become a major issue since 09/11/2001 and any carrier that transports placarded quantities of HM must have a plan per Part 172.800. Hazmat Home Page John Q. Nope! Stay with it ALL the time. Leave only to go eat, let the dog run or use the facilities. Good tips John Q. ******************************* "Got the bird dog on... Those clubs only deter theives that are too lazy to carry a small pair of bolt cutters. It only takes a few seconds to remove one. Just snip right through the steering wheel near the club and pull. Answer: Originally posted by Phantom309: Or if you prefer real low tech you can keep a crazy monkey in the truck. Yeah but then most companies would classify your truck as a team truck... @#*!%$^@! Answer: Just from personal observations, I'd say 25% of all drivers never lock their trucks and about 80% never take the keys with them if they do. If it's stolen and the keys are in it, in some states YOU can be charged. Also, your company can legitamately report that you failed to follow proper security precautions. Humans require a brain--too bad use is optional Answer: Roehl provides all their drivers with a steering lock that goes thru the U-joint on steering column and padlocks on the end. Even with these locks we still get trucks stolen. Why? 'Cause the drivers are too lazy to put them on. Also have cargo thefts--why? 'Cause drivers don't put the lock on their trailer doors. Tampa seems to be a pretty bad area for truck theft. Roehl lost one there and at I believe Gainsville. New tractor and trailer. Driver was inside taking a shower with the engine running and doors locked but no steering lock. DUH!! Better to have it and not need it as need it and not have it!Just remember:If the world did'nt suck, you'd fall off! Answer: I thoroughly enjoy the services of my loyal 130 pound Alaskan Malamute/German Shepherd Mix, as well as a brake lock. Such security has allowed my truck to move only with my consent for twelve years now. Of course, I've only had the dog for five years now, but I had his father with me before then.
