May I suggest that you stay away from Central Refridgerated (formerly Dick Simon Trucking), and Swift.
Central is owned by Swift. Swift and Central are considered at the bottom of the cesspool. One step up from C.R. England.
Check out Roehl, Millis Transfer, U.S. Express, Werner and maybe Schneider.
Oh! Stevens Transport is down at the lower end of the cesspool too.
Good Luck.

Answer:
US Express is a good place to start but only if you can get into a real truck not a automatic..
You make like the automatics but that will limit your chances of going somewhere else later on..
I have never been with any of the other companies but have heard good things about Roehl and Mills..
I did drive for US Express but that was long before they had the automatics..
Do your research here at Trucknet read all the things that have been posted and then choose the one that you like..
Also as a Female when you talk to the recruiters ask questions that fit your needs..When you start with one of these companies you will be with a trainer for a number of weeks and you have to decide if you want a male or female trainer also you want ot ask how many years experience the trainer has..It is getting to be winter and I would not want to be with a trainer that don't have alot of experience..
Now a days some companies will let anyone become a trainer..Good Luck

Answer:
thanks for all the info. unfortunately i have a small misdemeanor thing on my record that is going to be dismissed in six months but i have to wait it out so they are telling me the only company that will probably hire me is Swift and then i can go with another company when my case has been dismissed.
Can i just ask. Why is Swift bad? i guess i could do a search huh? but i don't believe everything i hear out here.
hey little red your not a trainer are you? just kidding.
i would love to go with werner and have sent them an application but we'll see. i'm getting so freakin' scared. if you guys see me i hope your nice cause i kinda have a rep out here if you know what i mean. somebody from here's gonna know who i am and their gonna jump me in the parking lot at the truck stop. i hope not.
so take care everyone drive safe.

I really doubt that anyone will even know who you are out there that is on this board, unless you want anyone to know who you are. I also think they have more important things to deal with then jumping you!
Besides most of these on here are aware that this is just the internet and realize that "real life" is not determined by what is said on this board.

I'd also advise against Swift. Who wants to get paid .25-.27 cents per mile and still have to unload 85% of the time?
If you're a newb looking for a good starter company, I'd recommend Schneider. They'll start you out at .27 cents per mile, I believe it is, and you only have to unload partially or completely 10% of the time, from what I understand. Some bonus pay, too.
Good luck in your decision making.

Answer:
it was a joke seven. ugh your so annoying and i really think you've probably never met a princess in your life even tho you think you are one.
i don't feel like talking to you. i could say alot more but i really don't feel like wasting my time. there are alot of things i would like to cut and paste from other quotes from you but i have a life and i don't have the time. besides your too annoying and i don't want to deal with you.
thank you very much. goodbye!

Answer:
Well, Lori, I also kinda thought you were serious about the "jumping" thing, though I'm not sure what you meant.
Somebody gonna beat you up, or someone will want whisk you away to paradise?
On both counts, please don't flatter yourself, only scum would do either, with a package they have no clue about.
Do your school, do your job, and loose the attitude, or it will truly be rough on you out here.
Not meant to be argumentive, just some advise from a long time trucker that has seen a lot, if not all, of it!

Try to remember Loriaz that words alone can not express "tone of voice" so Seven had NO IDEA if you were joking or not. I am pretty sure anyone reading the post would have read it the same as I did along with Seven and the other poster.

Answer:
You can scratch Millis off the list. They only hire east of the Mississippi.
Roehl has a very strict policy. Depending on the "misdemenor", you can be safe to assume they will not hire you, scratch them off.
If you would like to get home once in a while, and limit the time you spend doing strenuous work for next to nothing, and driving your truck off route (for free) so you can fuel at Swift/Central terminals...you can go ahead and scratch those two off.
If you absolutely never want to get home...and on the rare occasion they let you go home they make you park at a terminal and drive your personal vehicle home (in your case you would park in Dallas, TX.), I would take Hoss' advice and not even put Stevens on your list. (C.R. England I belive works simalar to Stevens)
That leaves: U.S. Express, Werner, and Schnider, mentioned in this thread, for you to consintrate on.
I have heard and read good and bad things on all three companies, but you will find good and bad about all companies in general.
You need to consentrate on specific qualities that you are looking for and/or expect from a company. i.e.: home time, insurance, pay raise incraments, etc... (what is the best package for you)
You have prooven that you are your own person, and you feel confident in yourself that you can make decisions and steps in your life without the help of anyone else---that is why it cofuses me that you even come here to an information and advice board...and nobody is forceing you to accept our advice, or trust our experienced opinions and direction---but, it can only help you to open your mind to what is said here, and decide for yourself if what we say is something you choose to take to heart.
When it comes right down to it.......the choice is entirely yours; but if you don't care to hear our input, why do you ask?

Believe it or not, Seven has provided quite a bit of info. More so, she offers advice, which I have found to be very sound and acurate.

Answer:
thats nice i'm glad she helped you. like i said before i could really delve into this and cut and paste stuff but who has time. i don't like her. nothing against anyone else liking her. she has an interesting education, a fantastic career and i hope she's happy. as a person i just don't like her and i don't want to talk to her. i could go on and on and on and on about why but i just don't want to so lets talk about trucking and this cool post you left about winter clothing for trucking and other advice that newbies need to know. please not the psychological stuff. i could analyze everyone out here too but its time consuming and stupid.
