Welcome to Live Dialogue !!!

Roehl has no orientation in the next few weeks!
Question:
I am pretty disappointed. All though I do have an interview tomorrow morning with Givens. Sure hope that it goes well. I gave my 2week plus 4 days notice at the school system today. But can recant that at anytime up to the and including the 14th.
I am just really bummed that things are not going right now exactally as I had planned. Ahh well I guess if these 2 dont pan out that warner or KLLM will be looked at a bit harder again.

Answer:
Well not sure why this is the case. I have a few opinions though.
1) A job posting was just announced for an orientation instructor for Gary, IN. Not sure who left or perhaps they need a 3rd for increased demand.
2) Holidays coming up. Not sure how much water this one holds, if it were the end of Novemeber/December it would hold more credence(sp).
3) Too many students/not enough trainers in the system already. This is where I would put my money for the real cause. I know last week in Gary, IN they had an orientation class of over 13. They sent around 5 of the people home to wait for a trainer. The following week they were expecting over 15 in Gary. They can handle twice that number in Marshfield for orientation. So if I were a betting man, I'd say this is the reason.
I don't want you to think that the land of Roels is all punch and cookies. I have had my share of issues with fleet managers. But these issues would be at any company, not just Roehl. Even if I left Roehl today, I would have to recommend them as one of the best companies for a new driver to start with.

Now that makes sense to me. Seems he was looking at Gary for my training. Seems almost closer to send me to Atlanta. But it makes sense if they have so few instructors. I guess I will see what Givens says tomorrow. The big thing with them is the terminal is very close to my home. And that I know 2 people who seem pretty happy with them and well they have a guy who has been there over 30 years. Also guess it goes on who can employ me before I become UN-employed.
Thanks for the input. Helps alot to know I am not being "brushed off" for whatever reason.

Answer:
Just be patient. They are trying to get another instructor in Ellenwood and they just hired a new one for Gary yesterday. Hang in there. They'll call.
Better to have it and not need it as need it and not have it!Just remember:If the world did'nt suck, you'd fall off!
The more I see and read about Republicans and Democrats, the more I wish we had an Independent Party.
IMPEACH BUSH!!!!!!!!!!

Answer:
Yeah, the last spot at Gary for 7/10 was just taken up by a guy at my school. I am supposed to get my orientation date tomorrow.

Answer:
Thanks guys. But I roadtested an accepted a job with a company today. The terminal is in the area, a friend may end up my trainer. They are willing to teach me the things the school didint. They had good training pay and good miles pay. The loads are not driver unload. I may at times have to hook a chain up to a crate. Home time is 7-10 days out.
I really think once I get into the idea of being out there. That I will really like this.
Again thanks alot guys!

Answer:
I completed Roehl orientation yesterday at the Gary Ind. facility. If the terminal closest to you is full for orientation they will send you to the next closest facility that has openings. Right now they are signing a lot of students and orientations are filling rapidly. As far as getting a trainer goes we had 3 trainers for 14 people this week. They said that nothing that extreme has ever happened before. The rest of us we're sent back home and told to call back Monday afternoon to check on our statis.
A warning for students in the New York, Pa. area that had a recruiter by the name of John G., this guy seems to make a lot of promises the company can't keep. My recruiter in Ill. was very upfront and accurate. I had no surprises. Find a phone # in your brochure and call the company to verify what he has told you. Expect each 20 day training period to take 30 days and you maybe in a motel on the road if your trainer doesn't live by you. Good luck with whatever company you all choose.

Answer:
I know what went down, because those guys that were in your class were from the same school as me. I was sitting not ten feet from them during that presentation and he never ever said anything remotely like what they claim he did. In fact, the one guy specifically asked if he would be paid for orientation and John said "NO, but you will receive a $300 bonus that you can withdraw during training at a rate of $15 per day." He never promised or gauranteed them any money for orientation, and he said several times that benefits did not start for 90 days after training.
The other 40 people in the room understood it perfectly fine, but those two went off and crushed their skulls together and wouldn't listen to anyone else. They thought they were going to get a check cut to them when they got there.
John is a good recruiter that lays it all out on the table for you. He didn't make any promises at all, he explained the job, the benefits, the pay scale, talked about equipment, orientation, and then opened the floor up for questions.

Answer:
I had a recruitter from Illinois as well and she explained everything perfectly. I had my phone interview today and start my orientation in Marshalltown, WI on November 10, 2003. She did say that I was the last one for that orientation and that it would be at least another week before I would get to orientation if I did not want that opening. I did however take that opening, just because school ends on November 07, 2003 and wanted to get in asap..

Answer:
I'm supposed to be done next Thursday, but I am not going to orientation until the 24th. I'm going to Gary Indiana though.

Looking forward to getting mine.
So tell us about the equipment, whats it like living in a midroof? I was told that the odds are in favor a freightliner over an international.

Answer:
I still have not been offered a orientation date with Roehl. But I guess now it is moot. Since I have accepted the offer from Givens. The biggest plus there is the terminal is here.
I am figuring that me being in VA Beach VA may have something to do with a start date.
I really hope all goes well for you guys!
Good Luck!!!!

Answer:
Well, if you get a midroof they are not that bad. But there is a good chance that you may end up in an older flat-top, 1999 or so. It all ends up to the luck of the draw. Also, dont be suprised if you do not moce in and out of trucks alot at first. Lets see, I have been solo now for about 4 months and I am in my 3rd truck. Moving in and out of flatbeds is no fun.
