I dont want to drive 70 miles to my truck and back every day
Question:
This is the biggest reason I will NOT be going with CCC in Williamsburg VA. Plus 21% of the load just does not seem like much, after taxes and all the gas to and from every day! I would have to be there 90 days before consideration would be given to take my truck home but then I still need to drive about 50 miles each day for the load(unpaid). OK so next on the list is Roehl, Givens, or warner. Sometimes just typing warner hurts. I am not sure why as I have read good and bad on them. I see LOADS of Swift drivers down here..and sometimes think well ..seems they come through here a lot maybe I can get home semi regularly. AHHhhhh Hell I dont know who I want to go with and have 1 more week to decide. Am putting in notice with bus drivering for nov 15th last day! Maybe I am just too damn old to change everything. No..folks I did not work this hard to get this CDL A to not use it.. Answer: Originally posted by Bearbell: This is the biggest reason I will NOT be going with CCC in Williamsburg VA. Ask companies if they pay all "dispatched miles" this means from the time you get the message in your truck at your house, to the time you get the load itself you still get payed for those miles. As for the companies you just mentioned. Check out these companies in this order: Reohl FFE Arrow Werner Hey, if life throws you a curve ball, try and take a swing at it. Who knows what might happen Answer: It would be unpaid bobtail mails...50 to get to home and 50 to get back to work. Its not a question of having a run or not. Just which run that day/night I will have. Its local. I have already cehcked out Roehl and have a prehire from them. Just the SE recruiter is always on the road and I can never contact him. Was told to try on monday, I just need to set up an appointment for orientation. Also I want to find out if something happens in orientation can they help me get back home. Givens is about 1/2 hour from me. So they are a big consideration even though can not take the truck home and we only have 1 car and my daughter works and goes to college (so she always has the car). They are suppose to get you home once a week unfortunately home once a week I am told by my ex-b/f can mean just a few hours. But all and all he is pretty happy with them. The 2nd company you mentioned I havent heard of so will be researching them also. Thanks alot for your help. Answer: Take what any of them say about getting you home on a regular basis with a 5 pound grain of salt. It don't happen much with most drivers and especially newbies. Daytripper Sometimes you have to dig through a lot horsesh#t to find the pony. Answer: This is a local deal so am pretty sure they are truthful in home time... Answer: www.bestdriverjobs.com/truck-driving-jobs/trucking-jobs/driver_choice.html You get to pick a specific state that you are interested in. Answer: Well as far as home time goes. If you are under a dispatch and are run through your house, the extra milage is not paid. The paid milage is only figured from point A to point B. If you get to go home after being empty, you do not get paid for this either. When you get your dispatch when your home time is over, the paid milage is figured from your last destination. Sometimes this works out in your favor, other times not. As far as home times goes........... When you go through orientation they will tell you that 2 days off is 48 hours, 3 days is 72 hours. Now alot of this will depend on your particular fleet manager and yourself. Many think that if you get home at 3pm on a Saturday and leave out at 3pm on Sunday that is 2 days. If you do not stand up to this it will continue. In my situation I have not said anything until this last time home for fear of seeing my milage slip away. I have been running hard since I started. My best week has been 3328 paid miles, worst has been 2100. The good week was long runs out to Colorado, you can gobble up alot of miles out there. DRIVER BY CHOICE Buzzdog Answer: Thanks for the link. It was one of the sites I lost when I installed XP a week ago. About the paid for getting home and all. Thats not important to me. I guess the comment about driving 50+ miles to get to my load in the company truck is a left over from the school bus. We dont get paid until we have kids on the bus. I can understand not getting paid comming from home to get to your load. Hope one does when they drop a load off then going to the next. If not..sure isnt something that I am already not used to and do now anyways, so no biggie. I think my major gripe with CCC is the fact, that I would be going though the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. Twice a day then about 50-60 miles after that, just to get to my load. Dont misunderstand me I dont mind the drive, and love to drive. But I am smart enough to know that will get pretty darn old very soon. Yes I do realize I will be driving a who knows how long a distance to get to my load no matter what company I go with. I just dont want to do it twice a day! And that darn tunnel is backed up 1 way or the other 9 times outa 10 that I use it. Answer: Hey Bearbell, Im in Va. Beach, Going back to Givens after a short break, Let me know if you need any info. Ive found Givens has the best training pay and the best starting pay of anybody. Ill be on my way to N.Y monday evening, so if you need any info on them: pukindog@att.net Ike "The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it." Albert Einstein Answer: Oh Yeah, I am sure glad you found this thread. I had left a message just last night in your atlas thread asking you to email me. I had wanted to talk to you about your initial search. Then noticed last night every company I was looking at you had also, every time I searched here for info on a company, your name was starting the thread. So as soon as I can compose a letter. Your getting one. Thanks for the help! Answer: are you an alumnus of the "dogs" just curious I am a former "blacklion" and "gunfighter" Sorry about hijacking your post bearbell just wanted to ask that kwestion CD "I dont like small cars or real big women, but somehow I always find my self in 'em" (Kid Rock)recovering dweller..........oilfield trash division Answer: It doesn't sound like you're going to go with CCC, but I thought I'd give a little background for those that may be interested. This is meant to be neither positive nor negitive about CCC, just the facts. FYI, I do not drive or recruit for them. The following is as of 6 mths. ago. -The terminal is located in Eltham, VA, approx. 20 miles west of Williamsburg. -The tractors are parked at the terminal until you have established a safe driving history for a period of at least 3 months. (probation) -The tractors are governed at 60 MPH. Recently heard that this was going to be increased to 62 MPH. (?) -The pay is per load. No dead-head pay, bob-tail pay, etc. The pay scale is based on experience, and starts at 21% with increases every 6 mths. -There are possibilities you will get back hauls. -You are required to give both shipper and receiver 2 hrs. (each) for wait time before per hour pay kicks in. You are also required to be at the terminal 1 hr. before pull time. -You will be required to work 6 days a week, Mon-Sat. -You will deliver to distributors in VA, W VA, MD, and NC with round trip mileage averaging 400-500 miles, but some (most?) will not consider this OTR because you come home every night. Now, my 2 cents (adjusted for inflation it's actually worth less): I am somewhat suprised that CCC would hire someone whose homebase is that far away. In the past, they have not hired beyond Newport News area. Would explain the temporary "Drivers Wanted" sign that has seemed to have become permanent. Due to the type of load (Budweiser)it is very close to tanker. It is a good job to cut your teeth on if you want to be home every night, and can bite your tongue when dealing with dispatch. Hope this helps anyone that is interested. Answer: Hi LOL Chilidawg I dont mind one bit. Maybe soon you will get an answer Leftshort- Thanks alot for the info. The recruiter I talked to there actually told me all that you had. Except the part about the not hiring past NN, and the 1 and 2 hour deal. Which is ok by me. Like I said I do not want to drive that far to get to my truck never mind where the load maybe. Have an interview with Givens tomorrow, and hoping it goes well. They have alot that I want. KLLM is waiting for me to set an orientation date, he had one set for me Nov 3rd, but I need to give the school system 2 weeks notice. Roehl does not have any orientation dates at all next week. Which really is fine I need the date to be after Nov 14th. So tonight I am playing the nervous and wonder stage. I think self doubt goes in there also. I guess only time will tell me. Thanks for all the info on CCC. Answer: Where doya hang yer hat in Va Bch??? I used to live down south off of Gen Booth...Had one helluva bachelor pad w/3 other squids(I think the name of the street was Marlybone) Anyhoo good luck to ya....whichever direction you decide to go CD "I dont like small cars or real big women, but somehow I always find my self in 'em" (Kid Rock) recovering dweller..........oilfield trash division Answer: The Bayside area.
