Training
Question:
Hello, All Well I start my training at Millis Transfer on Nov 4th. I will be in Cartersville, GA for three weeks, then on the road with a trainer for eight weeks. The school part ends Nov 22nd, would anyone know if I will be out driving on Thanksgiving, do trainer's work on holidays? Will I possibly not be starting with the trainer until after Thanksgiving? No biggie for me, but my wife is asking. I will keep you all posted on how it goes. We have been reading here for quite a while now. We appreciate all the postings. EsterJ's Husband. EsterJ Answer: First off, I wish you all the best for your training. I hope it is eveything and more than you expect! However, I can't tell you much about holidays for any specific company, but if you end up driving on Thanksgiving, you will not be alone. Most OTR companies run loads every day of the year. Mostly from what I have seen, holidays are usually requested well in advance. There must be someone with your company though that can answer. If not, maybe a call to the company would be in order. « Without respect for basic rights and objectivity, even a democratic government can be oppressive and tyrannical. » Answer: Originally posted by Ester: Hello, All Well I start my training at Millis Transfer on Nov 4th. EsterJ If your trainer is off, you will be off. When you get out on your own, if you cannot take vacation days, you will likely be out during Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and all other holidays. drivers don't get holidays off like everyone else, and they usually don't get any holiday pay, or any bonus pay. Generally speaking, every day in trucking is just another day. A weekday is the same as a weekend is the same as a holiday. Some companies have holiday policies, but many do not. _________________ @#*!%$^@! Answer: Just that Holiday traffic is loony tunes and it takes good planning not to be sitting as the rest of the world is taking the time off. You cant load and unload Generally during a holiday weekend or week! Drivers are a little friendlier during a holiday, good wishes on the CB etc. As a company driver I noticed dispatch and load assigner/finders would lose their minds and not be able to find our homes anymore Answer: Just happened to jump in here and see your post. Like the other poster said, if your trainer is off on Thanksgiving you will be off. Best of luck to you in your training. I went to Cartersville in Feb and had a blast. Tell "MusicMan" I said hello. He will be one of the instructors!! After you get out, keep an eye out for truck 9076 and give the ole TN Raven a shout, I will come back to ya! Tnraven If you ain't the lead dog, the scenery never changes!! Answer: Ester Would like to know how your training go's as I will be going the the Ohio training center Nov.25th and the millis office in Black River Falls,Wisconsin - said that the training will be shut down on thanksgiving weekend thursday to sunday that week. After your three week training, you go back to the millis transfer co. part, for three day's of company training then you will go home for a few days and then your trainer will pick you up at your home or some place close, where your wife can drop you off to meet up with your trainer like a truck stop or fuel stop close to you.You will go out with him for upto 12 days at a time and you will do most of the driving then your training will drop you off back close to your home and then after the trainer go's back on the road again he will pick you up again and you will do this for 4-8 weeks for as long as it takes to get to on your own and you will as some point during the training on the road, you will take your CDL in your home state. This is what I was told up there in Black River Falls,Wisconsin. By the way have you ever been able to get on the Millisfamilies.com site-I've try alot of time's but I never get back a reply from whoever runs that site, they never have sent me my past word to get on this site. From what I've read on the the truck net and layover.com emails from many other people that millis is a pretty good place to work and some of the other Co's are not, that give company training.I just thought, that about evey co. has plus or minis about them, but from what I've read about millis on the minis was very little. Hope to get some of your emails later. Answer: Hey, TN Raven an Wa9ysb I will be looking for you out there. I am excited to get started after a year of researching, I am finally ready. I really wanted to run out west but being that I live here in GA, Millis was the best option for me. They will be a good company to start with although I'am not crazy about driving to WI. I tried twice to get a password for millisfamlies also but no luck. I asked Jazz at the office and she said the woman in charge of the site was in process of moving to WI from Chicago. She has been probably lost in the shuffle. TN Raven how do you like the company is it working for you? I hope the trainer doesn't take the holiday off I want to get started. When I start something I like to go fullbore into it, and I will be very ancious to learn it all.
