Werner's reputation with employees, need opinions!
Question:
I have been prehired by Werner. I hadn't heard anything bad about the company until I announced to my class about my prehire. At that point a gentleman began to talk very poorly about Werner, saying that their trucks are in deplorable shape and that their insurance rates are insane and that their pay is far to low for the B.S. that goes on with the company. He says I should strongly look into another company. I haven't found anything negative about the company elsewhere in this forum, but I do think .24 a mile is low. I just would like to know anyone's opinion about Werner. Thanks!!! Answer: ANother student, and if he was how would he know just how Werner is to work for???? Shuffler is our resident Werner expert. Look for his posts concerning Werner. Do a search on his handle and put in Werner in the Subject line. He has laid a lot of the good, bad, and ugly associated with that company. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: The only company I can tell you to avoid with 100% certainty is CR England. You might as well sell your soul to the devil himself if you are foolish enough to hire on with them. As far as Werner goes, I've heard mixed reviews from talking to some of their drivers. Like uturn said, you might want to shoot an e-mail to Shuffler, who used to be a trainer with them and still drives for Werner. Here's a site that might give you some more info on Werner: RealDrivers Bad Reports Your best bet would be to hang out at a truckstop for a day and talk to their drivers. Offer to buy them a cup of coffee and most will be more than happy to give you their 2 cents. Whatever you do, RESEARCH, RESEARCH, and RESEARCH!!! Remember, you will most likely be giving up one year of your life to work with whatever company you sign up for so it's a good idea to do your homework. Could be worse, I think. "There is just something about fresh winter snow and a river. The day is bright even if it is cloudy, the water is friendly even if it is cold and the fish are there even if they are not biting." Answer: Oh only a few thousand newbies a year, is that because the newbies suck at what they do or because the company treats you like ****? I would hate for my first year in driving be a bad experience and sour me forever. The other student used to do body work for Werner, and he used to talk to alot of other drivers. He said that they said that they hate it. But the more I talk to him, the less crappy he says it is. I just needed a second opinion. Thanks guys! Answer: I used to drive for Werner. My experience with them, on the whole, was a positive one. They are like most other large carriers. They have a tremendous amount of work to get done and can't satisify the petty whims of ever crybaby driver in the fleet, but the babies are the ones who do the most b*tching so that's what you'll hear most.( And I am NOT implying that you are a crybaby driver!! Please don't assume that.) The starting pay is not too great, but the insurance is reasonable and Werner takes good care of it's equipment. Just ask a driver who has had to wait at a terminal because Safety (not DOT) red tagged his truck, I had it happen to me. You will get loads you don't want to places you don't want to go. You will be given adequate time to get there, but don't dawdle. I have no hesitation recommending Werner as a starting company, and I know drivers who have left for 2-3 years after having been there a while and came back. Go with Werner. It's not bad. Good luck! I've always been crazy, but it's kept me from going insane. Waylon Jennings Answer: Werner is a good company to get your feet wet. Take care and be safe To be safe you must be aware US ARMY Answer: I Agree with is not a bad company to start out with but, don't stay with them for the rest of you career. There is very little advancement with werner but, I hear if you go the trainer route you can make 60k+ a year That isn't to bad. As far as I can see, pay is the only bad thing. Oh and you are more or less just a number with them also...... Hey, if life throws you a curve ball, try and take a swing at it. Who knows what might happen Answer: geeez....tired.... [This message was edited by Triscuitt on October 23, 2003 at 22:20.] Answer: All the majors have more in-common than different. Driving truck is driving truck. The average age of tractors is less than 1.5 years -- a VERY young fleet. Full-sized double-bunk Peterbilts, Freightliners and (now) Kenworths. The average trailer age is pretty old but the mechanics are well-maintained. Werner's relatively honest and payroll is accurate and prompt. Their on-time home-time is excellent for drivers who live near high-traffic corridors. Werner is Nebraska midwest values. But they're tough. They negotiate NOTHING. It's their way or no way. They NEVER question their own wisdom or authority and they use it to help you decide to do one of two things: 1. Stay, run on-time miles and be low maintenance. 2. Leave. They won't let you draw them into your unique personal problems. Not a good company for cronic victims. Werner likes to innovate. They produce high effeciency with massive data management, invented paperless logs and got DOT to approve it, and contribute to low rates with their share of predatory pricing. They're always coming-up with some new way to do everything better -- which means cheaper. Pay is typical for most newbie entry-level jobs, but the ambitious usually leave after they learn the ropes and max-out on what they're learning about the business at Werner. And then....there are those of us who find it a safe harbor by shark infested water. Maybe we've lost the will to fight much more.....but Werner does ok. No top dollar of course. But it's pretty good trucking if you use some common sense and just accept Werner for what it is -- a pretty smart trucking company doing the best it can. If you are available to answer, I will forward one to you again. Bill Answer: Try again - I've been deleting all e-mail from this server. I'll watch for it if you try again. Answer: On its way. Thanks. Bill Answer: Thanks for all of the input. I am glad that Werner seems to have a good reputation. The one guy from my class who told me that Werner was bad, I also had to have an argument with him about what was a dedicated route and what was OTR. He says OTR is when you go, say from Sioux City to Omaha and back and forth. I told him, no that was a dedicated route if it's from the same business to another every day. Then he said dedicated was when you have your own truck and drive all over the country. I started to think he just has a few wires crossed. But, I am glad to have found a job out there, nonetheless. He still doesn't have one. Thanks again!!! Answer: Don't listen to anything that man has to say!!!!. And remember the "type". They're out here too. .......and if you pull the short straw at truck assignment time and get a ratty old tractor....remember, my opinion is only worth what you paid for it. You can do a lot worse than Werner. Best of luck and stay safe. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
