Help! New Husband/Wife team needs advice
Question:
Hello all! My wife and I want to venture into the world of OTR team driving and would appreciate any help getting started. I have a CDL license and my wife is interested in getting hers. We wish to explore; seeing and experiencing our country and thought that we may as well get paid to do so. I am retired and my wife counsels over the phone so we are free to meander and do not have to “work” so we do not seek full time employment. Ideally we wish to find people/businesses that would like fill in drivers or loads/trips no one else want—hazardous, out of the way or unusual. This is all new to us and we would greatly appreciate any help. Many thanks Chuck Magers Answer: You do not mention where you are from or how long you have had your CDL and how much experience driving a tractor trailer, specifically how much recent experience you have had. I really do not know any companies that are looking for casual drivers, specifically team drivers where one or both people are inexperienced. I do know of several companies that hire teams where one or both are inexperienced. Swift, CRST, US XPress are just three. With any of these companies you can expect to run 4,000-6,000 miles per week and be away from home for 2 or more weeks at a time (CRST will want you out for a min of 3 weeks at a time). Generally you will "earn" 1 day off for every week out. By all accounts UsXpress has a decent training program and they do use auto shift trannies which would make the learning proccess easier, the only draw back here is that should you wish to change jobs later you may have some trouble not knowing how to drive a manual truck. Other training companies to look into are PAM, Willis Shaw, Trans AM, Werner, Schnieder. If you let us know more about your specific situation we can provide you with some better info. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. _________________ Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
