Curtainsides are a lot easier. Or you could start out with flats, get some experience and then switch. BOL!!! Better to have it and not need it as need it and not have it!Just remember:If the world did'nt suck, you'd fall off! The more I see and read about Republicans and Democrats, the more I wish we had an Independent Party. IMPEACH BUSH!!!!!!!!!! Answer: I have a friend that drives for Great American Lines. I went out with him last night. We went from a steel mill in Lepsic, Ohio to a Steel Plant in Anderson, Indiana. He gets paid percentage, 26% to be exact. All drivers get this amount starting out. They drive 379 Peterbilts and pull a covered wagon. They mainly do short run steel haul. About a five state region. Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, and Illinois. I really liked what this job is. I'm thinking more and more that this is who I'm going to go with. Not to mention all I have to do is graduate and get the CDL and I have a job. He pulls a four axle but I will start with a spread axle. He pulls in about $1200-$1500 per week gross. Of course I realize that my weekly will be less starting out. But the Terminal Manager told me that It should be around $800 gross. My friend showed me all of his load sheets from when he started and the manager was telling me the truth. All drivers get the same percentage. Dispatch is on a first unloaded basis. He has been there a year and really likes it. He started with TMC. the best part that I like about this company is that they treat you like a person and not a number. Now all I have to do is start school. Answer: Sounds like a sweet deal. I'd be sold on that peterbuilt. Answer: Qoute: I'dbe sold on the Peterbuilt" ' Wrong!!!!!! It's just a damned truck!!! With no room and a short turning radius. Hell, go for the money/benefits/hometime. Period. Forget the triple digit trucks/chicken lights/chrome. Better to have it and not need it as need it and not have it!Just remember:If the world did'nt suck, you'd fall off! The more I see and read about Republicans and Democrats, the more I wish we had an Independent Party. IMPEACH BUSH!!!!!!!!!! Answer: Originally posted by nofxn40s: Sounds like a sweet deal. I'd be sold on that peterbuilt. I wouldn't sell myself to a company based on what kind of tractor they're gonna give ya. I've been driving a 93 Freightliner COE since I started where I'm at about four years ago. I had it with the original engine, the company had a new one installed about a year ago. But, coming this spring, the company is selling the rig and I'm getting assigned to a Peterbilt myself. I've driven one before, but it is going to feel kind of funky driving something else. We have one Petercar in our company's lot, therefore, I've tried practicing on it whenever a coworker of mine doesn't have it out on the road. Excuse the run-on sentences and the stuff that doesn't fit into this topic. Answer: I got another letter from Millis Transfer wanting to know if I want to go to training or not and if not why. Just kind of a curtosy letter to see if I was interested. Millis has always been kinda at the top of the list. If I decide to go with more training after school they will definately be the one. But I'm still leaning towards Great American and it isn't because of the Pete. They are close to home and good pay. But I'm still thinking about some better bennies too. Answer: Buckeye Please tell more about Great American..Do they have a website? Sounds pretty good to start .. Answer: Just out of curiosity, why do you guys overlook Roehl so much? I've never heard of a Rhoel driver that is unhappy, they have great hometime, competitive pay, and their benefit package is on par with most major carriers. Am I missing something about them? Answer: I haven't counted out Roehl yet 100%. I'm still waiting on them to finish processing my application. As far as Great American goes, they have alot of terminals. Where they are all at I don't know. They are mostly a owner op company only have few company drivers. I don't think that they have a website that I'm aware of. The reason I'm leaning hard on them is hometime, pay, and local terminal. Only 35 miles. Answer: Do they not allow you to take the truck home with you? Even if it is only 35 miles away, that will be a pain in the ***. Unless you want to leave your car there, you'll have to arrange for someone to pick you up and take you back during your TAH. I prefer to have the tractor sitting out in my driveway. Answer: I believe you can take the truck home as long as it doesn't need any maintenance. I'm not 100% positive but I believe you can. My friend took his home the other night when he stopped at home to service the wife. Answer: Originally posted by nofxn40s: Sounds like a sweet deal. I'd be sold on that peterbuilt. Petes don't turn worth a dang-terrible truck for rookies. @#*!%$^@! Answer: Highway man you know it's about the truck and the lifestyle. Who cares about the rest. "There is just something about fresh winter snow and a river. The day is bright even if it is cloudy, the water is friendly even if it is cold and the fish are there even if they are not biting." I must have been asleep when they went over that in truck driving school! @#*!%$^@! Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
