Paid per mile
Question:
The company I'm looking into says it pays:
"DISPATCHED PRACTICAL MILES"
What does that mean exactly? Is it all of the miles you drive or ?

Answer:
Couple of different ways they can figure it; usually it's the way that is most advantageous to them of course. Ask if they use Household mover's guide or one of the other ones to figure miles. In any case HMG screws drivers the most, the others can vary, some are even pretty close. Hub miles is what you actually drive, and hardly anybody pays hub miles anymore. The others can short you by up to 10% or more; i.e. the trip pays 900 miles but it is really 1,000 miles going the smart way and not taking shortcuts through somebody's backyards or going through 800 red lights on that U.S. highway that runs through downtown KC.

Answer:
Practical miles is what I use on my laptop. It is not the shortes miles possible. It is what is practical and will use toll roads and some US highways. But avoids the cow paths along the way. It is also very close to actual and usually is from address to address. Most the others run from city border to city border or zip code to zip code. Practical is the best except for hub miles which are actual..

Answer:
"Practical Miles" is part of PC Miler when choosing routes. I imagine "Practical Miles" is also part of other mapping programs.

Answer:
I should've explained better. I use PC Miler. It gives you choices of "Practical" miles, "Shortest", "Toll Discouraged" and "National Network". I use practical miles and it runs very close to actual miles. Where I work they use HMG (Household Movers Guide). It isn't even close to being right. The last run I had that paid 640 miles had an actual mileage of 747. Some of the brokers I use to run for also used Practical miles. Their miles and mine using PC Miler were just about the same. I would guess if their saying they pay by Practical miles they are using the same or a very simular program.
