Werner Question
Question:
I see Werner does except Newbies but, I think I mayu have found a loophole in there "no hardwired inverters allowed in the truck. Now, what about 12 volt inverters that plug in? You are allowed to have 12 volt items in the truck right ? I think this should be not a problem with them. Answer: Most large carriers WILL allow 12 volt items, and plug in inverters. Most will not allow hard wired inverters.202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: Hopefully that is the case. I hope someone that knows about Werner will reply to this. Answer: I believe most companies do not allow inverters to be hard wired to the electrical system due to damage and fire hazard when done improperly. Truck companies are like the Army. They have rules that apply to everyone because some individual has already screwed up. . Plug in inverters are usually limited to under 200 watts by the ability of the wiring to supply power. . For example: somewhere on the appliance is usually a label that lists how many watts that particular appliance uses. If not then calculate watts by multipling votage and current. A small 10 inch fan might be 120 volts and .6 amps which is 72 watts. (120v * 0.6amp = 72 watts) . Save yourself a whole lot of hassle and use 12 volt appliances. Coolers, TV's etc that run on 12 volt DC power are readily available if you look around. Answer: I did try to look for 12 volt items but, somethings you just can't find in 12 volts..... Answer: According to the policy Werner reads "No converters are to be in the tractors" (Page 80 of DMI,LLC Driver Handbook, 2001). However I have used portable (inverters) and hardwired (CBs, aftermarket stereos, etc. installed by Gra-Gar employees) in my company owned Werner tractors. So long as they are installed properly, fused and don't overload the auxillary circuit they are fine. Just make sure if something is hardwired into the Werner's equipment you let them do it. The main reason for concern over inverters and renegage electrical splicing is they are usually sloppy and dangerous. I've seen a couple of burned rigs parked at the Omaha tractor shop that had electrical fires. Both were from unsafe and unauthorized electrical equipment. Enforced policy is, anything you can plug into a 12-volt cigarette plug is ok as long as it doesn't trip the breakers or start a fire. Almost EVERY Werner driver I've talked to has a 12-volt "plug-in" inverter -- the typical kind sold in the truckstops -- to power their laptop, electric toothbrush charger, satellite dish....whatever. Bottom line at Werner -- no hard wiring add-ons, including chicken lights, etc. But you can plug anything into one of the four 12-volt plugs in the cab/sleeper (dash, cooler compartment, tv compartment, desk) and the truck basically protects itself by tripping the breakers if the system can't handle it. Shuffler, Now can the drivers have a Satellite dish on the truck with a normal 150watt inverter and would that be ok with werner? Answer: I think static electricity is the electricity of the future. Answer: Yes. 150 watts is all you need, and I see our company trucks with satellite dishes all the time. I assume they're all operating on a plug-in inverter. For all practical purposes, regardless of their "no inverter" policy, Werner allows anything that's designed to plug into a cigarette lighter outlet. The truck's breakers protect the electrical system from overload.....and bsides, how could they enforce what you plug into a 12-volt (cigarette outlet) plug anyway? Search you truck? All they're worried about is making sure you don't "hard-wire" anything to the trucks electrical system. Larger inverters for microwaves, etc, must be hard-wired to the battery. Answer: I use 12 volt items for most every thing. DO NOT buy them from the truck stop. You will pay twice as much for them. You can get a 40qu electric cooler for 60 at Wal Mart, same thing at TA tRuck stop 119.00. I would also recommend a 12 volt Burton lunch box stove. These are great to cook almost anything in, but also are great for heating water in case you can not get to a shower righ away and need to take a light bath. 12volt and 120 volt combp TV with VCR 79.00 at wal mart, 169 for the one with a DVD. 12 volt george forman grill look alike 50 at truck stop, 22.75 plus shipping from JC Whitney. Get a JC Whitney catalog or go online. They sell tons of stuff for Truckers and Campers. Also check out E-Bay. I have been able almost every thing 12 volt.202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
