Team hiring companies
Question:
Have a good friend who's been driving 2 or 3 years now. I drove 4 or 5 months in 1998 He wants to run as a team. What would be the best way/ company to talk to TIA Ken

Answer:
I've heard US Express might be a good choice. I also understand they'll give you a newer Volvo 770 to drive. But I have no idea how they run and what you might make. Most likely the same as any other big company.
"There is just something about fresh winter snow and a river. The day is bright even if it is cloudy, the water is friendly even if it is cold and the fish are there even if they are not biting."

Answer:
Since you've been out of the saddle for 5 years, most companies are probably going to want you to go to school. But since you've driven before that shouldn't present many challenges.
I've always been crazy, but it's kept me from going insane.

Answer:
you might give CRST a call. They only use teams (with a few small exceptions for some dedicated runs).
Covenant is another company that is heavy with team freight that accepts drivers with little or no experience.
USX also supposedly like teams.
Also be sure to check the local papers, especially the Sunday editions. You may see an ad or three in there wanting team drivers for some good runs.
I will always be a mutter trucker at heart.
Answer:
Do NOT go with Covenant! Do they hire teams? Yes. Definitely. in fact, they would prefer to hire a team over a solo. But do a search on Covenant Transport and see how many good things you can find about them...then see how many bad. I have never....EVER heard anything good about Covenant Transport.
Ditto for Swift.
On Teaming...
The good:
-If you get lonely easily...or have a significant other that also wants to be a trucker... it may be a good move for you.
-In most companies, teams get the longer runs. They usually get the better and newer trucks in the fleet.
-It generally pays more.
The bad:
-Always sleeping in a moving truck
-Not much time to stretch...and take in any scenery
-Living in such very close quarters with someone...only really interracting with each other for weeks at a time can ruin a friendship and/or relationship.
Teaming has its advantages... and it also definitely has its disadvantages. Weight your options carefully.
Now to your question at hand. Which companies are teaming companies? The answer: MOST newbie companies will gladly hire teams... although they may require sometime with a trainer if you haven't been OTR for a while.
The ones I would recommend would be:
US Xpress
CFI
Roehl
Schneider (but for teams only)
Werner
and several other major carriers. Just ask.. or try and find their websites, They usually will indicate if hey hire teams or not.
-Good luck
