For you wannabe's......before you start school
Question:
If there is a company or two or three that for some reason you really have your heart set on working for do yourself a favor and call that company before you start school anywhere and ask if the school you are thinking about attending meets their standards.
The reason being is that some companies will only hire if you attend a very specific school, or require the school actually has PTDI certification, or any number of other requirements.
I will always be a mutter trucker at heart.
Answer:
While your checking to see if the school meets their standards you might want to check if you meet their standards. For many checking first to see of your driving record, work record, and criminal records are acceptable. You might also want to see if the company hires from your area.
Things I did check and suggest all prospective trainees check before putting out or borrowing large sums of money.

Personally, in the time before I go to driving school, I'm doing these things to prepare myself...
- Read this and other trucking forums for real life experinces and opinions
- Read transportation industry news
- Start driving my personal vehicle as a professional..not only to maintain my already good MVR, but to increase patience, observation skills, etc.
- Start planning my personal finances to become debt free and increase my savings
- Obtain a copy and study my states Commercial Drivers Manual
- Obtain a copy and study "Bumper to Bumper". PTDI also has an excellent drivers manual.
- Plan an entry and, if necessary, an exit strategy from trucking. This requires savings as well.
- Wait a few years until my daughter is older, she needs a Daddy and I need her.
