So...what did all you "newbes" do before trucking?
Question:
It's been so long for me I can't remember, I know now. I was a Doughnut maker, I really was. I would fry 'em and glaze 'em, actually one of many jobs. Answer: but in a past life or two I have worked in the oil fields, fast food, was assistant manager of an adult book store, was an asistant manager at Wal Mart, worked in social services with the mentally retareded, owned and ran my own small business for a time, and worked in several gas stations/convience stores. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: Well we just did this. Kind of still doing it not to far down the page. What Kind Of Job Did You Leave When You Went Trucking? Lots of replies. You know what they say. Practice makes perfect. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: I was a codemonkey swinging from the bountiful Y2K tree. Then I ran the family business for a few years, until I went bonkers. Answer: U.S Navy 20 years. I was an interior decorator. I am also color blind but it never affected my business. I did have to stop. Customers are just a pain in the butt. They always wanted a refund for one thing or another. You just cant please most people. "There is just something about fresh winter snow and a river. At Pope AFB, NC I loaded airplanes, fleeted airplanes (hook up a lavatory service truck to take the waste off the plane), and rigged parachutes for airdrop. I loved it there. I got to Scott AFB, IL and did the flight schedule for inbound/outbound flights. Our schedule that we did was the primary schedule that was sent to every flight, squadron, group and wing commander. It was also sent to several support personnel. In our career field their wasn't much of a job there and they made up crap to keep us occupied. Didn't like some of the stuff I saw go on by higher ranking people so I got out. Tim WWJBD - What Would Jimmy Buffett Do??? This is USAF 2T2 and I approve this message. Answer: Originally posted by uturn2001: and worked in several gas stations/convience stores. I worked for Arco at one time, Am/Pm mini mart. It was a cool job with the exception of Saturday night. Thats when the drunks and gangbangers came in and would steal the beer. Answer: I worked in retail for 20 years, my family owned a small hardware store. We closed the store and I stayed home for a few years while my kid was young. I decided on truck driving because it looked like it paid pretty good, and the jobs looked plentyfull. Interestingly, in the driving school that I went to, most of the other students had a link to the industry. Some one else in their families or a friend was a driver. Lots of lay offs in my class. Also, we had two wives of drivers that decided to get their CDL's so that their husbands could use their log books, WOOPS!!!, I mean that they could drive teams with their husbands. One lady was so bad a driver, that she never got out of 5 gear on her CDL road test, and they still passed her. Ha Ha. 10 miles of driving test and they had to pass her because there is nothing in the cdl road test law that says that you must maintain a minimum speed! MM Answer: Can you describe more deeply the procedure for rigging parachutes for airdrop. Is this pretty much a fail-safe procedure? What is the probability that a chute will not open? What happens in this case? This is a very serious topic for me because even before September Sorrow, I had been thinking of ways to get out of a tall building in the event of major catastrophe if I end up working in one. I would never skydive; The only place I would use a parachute is at the dragstrip. Answer: Full time jobs were : Computer operator Office manager Food store manager Temp work for a bank doing repossessions Bank hired me full time, kept doing same job Made internal move in bank to leasing divison doing accounting Survived a merger with another bank keep same position Now working for medical supply company doing accounting Also during all these jobs I held part time jobs also. Waiter and set up person for catering company Stock clerk Security guard Cashier Licensed massage therapist (tried to start own business with this, got good clients, just a tough business) Currently doing cashier work again I am giving up both jobs, I'm due in Millis Transfer on Nov 10. Answer: I didn't do personnel parachutes. I just rigged G-12 parachutes that were training loads for our C-130 pilots and aircrew. I have jumped static line though. If you are looking for something like that you want to look for a T10-C. Tim Tim Member: Happy Dweller Society Newbie Division WWJBD - What Would Jimmy Buffett Do??? Answer: Construction (building pools/houses and laying tile), Over-night stocking at a major retail store, service technician for city buses, assistant manager for utilities for major bus sub contractor. Answer: I've been in trucking for twelve years now, but before that, most of what I did do was for myself - mostly involved bagging groceries at the store after I moved away from Little America, helping out work on cars, buying/selling cars as a personal business venture, selling stuff at the flea market on weekends, etc. Then, I was old enough to drive a big rig. Been doing it ever since. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
