Question:
Hello guys, I have a few questions maybe you can help me with. I am going to ALLIANCE TRACTOR TRAILER SCHOOL in FEBRUARY. It is in Ladysmith, VA off of I-95 ex 110. First is this school a goodone? Do any of you guys know of companies in Virginia that will give tuition re-imbursement and also have a program that will help me get my own truck after say a year. I have been reading the forum and you guys are really helping people out that is new to the industry. thanks a lot.

I assume that you are a resident of Va, right? If so, how far do you live from Weyers Cave? Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave has one of the best truck driving truck in the state and the cost is probably half of what you would pay at some private school. At one time they were doing week-end classes, dont know if they are still doing them or not.
If you live too far from Weyers Cave, check around and see if a community college nearby might have a driving school. In case you dont know where Weyers Cave is, it is about 10 miles south of Harrisonburg on 1-81 @ mile marker 235.

In my opinion ATT school is a big rip off, I attended a community college in Va. 2 years ago to get my CDL and only paid $750 including books. The school was Tidewater Community College, it was a 6 week course. ATT was going to charge me $5500. Big difference in cost.But that is for you to decide. BOL

It's a rip off I know the one you are talking about I went there a few times as a recruiter to show off the truck and talk to newbies..And I personally thought that the trainers where a joke.
It may have changed..
There was another one right up the road from there called Shippers Choice they had crappy trucks but the instructors where all retired drivers and they seemed to take some pride in their training.
Mind you this was my oberservation only..But from what I seen the guys at Allience made the students feel like they where stupid for asking a question.

I presently live in the Chesterfield, VA area. Marker 62 on I-95, but I will look into the School. Alliance it trying to charge me $4900. I feel $4900 will be a good investment for the income I will make back, but if I can get it cheaper, thats what I will prefer.

Thanks for the information on Tidewater community. I will also look into it. Right know I am stationed in, MD. So I am looking for something to attend on the weekends close to the family.

The school that I told you about will finance it for you or at least they use to.

Tidewater was a good school,the instructors were all retired o/o's, except for one Mike now he is a trip.They all know there stuff, I think you will like it and will learn much from them. BOL
