Question:

1000 HRS Dispatched NEW JERSEY to LONG ISLAND. 90 miles.
Map, drive to drop yard, pick up trailer.
First time to long island, drive over the veranzzo bridge.
Arrive 1500 hrs, dock area is inside building, i mean inside, not just backing through garage doors. A little dark.
1530 hrs dock workers want to go home, 4 forklifts unload truck. 30 minutes flat.
1600 rush hour, have preload back in new jersey.
Drive back out long island.
1000 to 1900 hrs, 9 hours non stop, except for 30 minute unload. Paid 90 miles one way. company does zip code to code on deadhead back out.
0700 unloaded, 1000 to 1900 9 hour day. 1900 picked up preload. And went looking for parking as was first time in area.
Found out later owner ops, get 150 dollars a day to start to go into new york.

I am a montana driver. And what is a montana driver? You are the only truck on the road.

Answer:
"It's what you make of it", really.
Been there and done that a few times. Not real hard after the first attempt. But that type of pay means a real whine to the dispatcher episode would be on it's way.
"There is just something about fresh winter snow and a river. The day is bright even if it is cloudy, the water is friendly even if it is cold and the fish are there even if they are not biting."

Answer:
A professional truck driver sucks it up and goes where the load needs to... be it NYC, Montana or Kapuskasing, Ontario.
After a few years of this you won't need the maps anymore and you won't fear NYC either.
