LTL Trucking
Question:
Can someone explain to me just what this involves? I understand it has something to do with not a full truck or something. Hope this isn't too dumb! Thanks Monk Answer: L Less than T Truck L Load Means several pickups and/or deliveries. The company I'm leased to is a LTL carrier. Most trips I take have at least 5 stops on the outbound. Once in a while (not very often), I'll pull a TL (truck load). You oughta try 11 stops in the Chicago area in one day! THAT makes for one helluva loooong day. I've had trips that have as many as 14 stops! (outbound) LTL can be a real pain in the butt. Customers calling dispatch wanting to know where their stuff is, dispatch calling me and asking me where it is. I can't help how long a customer takes to get their 2 or 5 skids off my wagon. One drawback of LTL, I seem to deal with more a-holes than a "normal" driver. For the most part, LTL works pretty good for me. The rates are there. One thing I don't like about our LTL operation is, they book stops 600 miles away and want me to be there 8 hours later. They'll get their stuff when I get there. In the LTL world, the name of the game is "Hustle". ******************************* "Got the bird dog on... Dodgin' the scales... 80 miles an hour and a step outta jail..."
