Millis Transfer questions
Question:
Looks like I may be going with Millis for school training and the one year commitment.
Does anyone know the following?
Do they pay loaded and empty miles?
Do they pay for driver to unload?
Do they pay for lumpers?
Do they pay layover?
What is % of no touch?
What is % of drop/hook?
After classes you attend a 3 day orientation, then meet with experienced driver with whom you go out with for 3 to 5 weeks. Has any trainees gone solo before the 3 to 5 weeks?
Is it a solid 3 to 5 weeks out with the trainer or do you get a break?
Thank you for any input.
John

If you go to their website Millis Transfer You can find Out more or do a search for a Truck.Net member named POGO, he went through their training and he was the only one left after 6 or so didn't make it and the instructors dismissed them. They must be hard school to pass if he was the only one left. I think honestly it is better to go to a private school and then sign with a company that way. 3 weeks you will not learn anything and end up getting sent home. Hell 6 months you don't really learn anything. Why waste $500 when you can get a school that will at least give you chances
Hey, if life throws you a curve ball, try and take a swing at it. Who knows what might happen

Answer:
The trainer will keep you until they are comfortable enough to let you go. They try to match you up with a trainer in your area so that you get home when they do, though they can't guarantee it.
I went to their school March of last year, there were 5 in our class, as far as I know there are two of us still driving, we stay in touch and are both happy with how things have worked out.
I chose Millis because of their school. Private schools are expensive. Even if a company offers to pay back your loan it is on a month to month basis, and should you decide to change companies then they will not pick up the remainder of the loan. My first year is behind me and I have no plans to move on. Millis offers great starting pay at .30 a mile plus a mileage bonus. All of the toll passes with limited restrictions. You deal with one dispatcher, not a room full of them. The trucks are well equiped and have Jake brakes, the insurance is good and pays promptly, and I already have a decent start on my 401k. Some companies won't let you in for a full year, Millis is 90 days.
No matter where you go you need to put in a year, companies need to see at least that much commitment, so I decided that I might as well do it with Millis and let them pay for my school. Now I don't have to worry whether another company will accept the MTI schooling because I have a years verifiable experience, but from what I have learned about a lot of other companies, I am in the right place for me.
Good Luck Man, Perhaps we'll meet at one of the terminals while you are training, I am a big bald guy, usuallly with a smile on my face.
Some people find fault as if it were buried treasure.

Thanks for the answers. I didn't see the answers to the questions on the millis site.
Hopefully Millis will work for me if everything goes ok with my application.
Big A - Will keep a lookout for you if I get accepted. I owe you a beer or two for your time and info.
Drive safe guys,
John
