8th day
Question:
what is it?

Answer:
It's not in my calender.
"There is just something about fresh winter snow and a river. The day is bright even if it is cloudy, the water is friendly even if it is cold and the fish are there even if they are not biting."

Answer:
Are you asking about the 70 hour rule that says that if you have more than 70 hours of total on duty and driving time in 8 days then you can not drive until you loose enough hours to drop below 70 hours.
I will always be a mutter trucker at heart.
Answer:
That's the day God created the DOT.

Answer:
Sorry I was a bit vague. I just read everyone talking about, I thought I would be understood better. I am asking about the 70 hour in eight days. Why is it eight days? Why not a regular seven day week? Now if I divide 70 hours into eight days, that means you can only drive eight hours a day? And what happens if you go over that, you can't drive anymore? I don't know. Enlightenment would be helpful because I obviously need it!

BINGO!
You can only have a combined total of 70 hours of "on-duty/not driving" and "driving". Anything in excess of 70 is in violation of the HOS (Hours Of Service). Fines for exceeding the HOS are pretty high and could also include big time jail time depending on whether or not you were involved in a vehicle accident that got somebody killed.
Say you work 70 hours in 5 days. You CANNOT work or operate a commercial vehicle until you have sufficient hours available to do so.
In other words, you're gonna sit for 2-3 days, depending on your situation.

Opie says: It is eight consecutive days because that is the way the Interstate Commerce Commission wrote the regulation many years ago.
Blackat said:Now if I divide 70 hours into eight days, that means you can only drive eight hours a day?
Opie says: No. No. No. It means that you cannot drive after having been on duty (driving and on duty, not driving) in eight consecutive days. In essence, you can average 8.75 hours of all on duty time on a daily basis.
Blackat said:And what happens if you go over that, you can't drive anymore?
Opie says: You cannot drive when you reach 70 hours in 8 consecutive days. Then at midnight, you drop day one and the former day two now becomes day one for counting purposes.

Thanks a bunch Hoss and Opie. Now I'll know a little more when I start driving school next week!
