making a turn
Question:
In general, when you're making a turn in a big rig, are you allowed to use two lanes? Answer: use as many as you can control and that you need to safely make the turn. Good rule of thumb is with a 53' trailer u need 4 lanes, doesn't matter where you get em, but you need em. If at first you don't suceed, get a bigger hammer Answer: If you got it use it. Meaning use what room you have and need to make a turn. Always watch your mirrors before, during and after a turn and ALWAYS expect some idiot is going to try to sneak past you on the side you are turing into. One last thing.....Sometimes you may need to make three left hand turns to make one right hand turn. (In other words. Circle a block or two around to the left instead of making a very hard or impossible right hand turn) I have a name not a number. I am not cheap but I am resonable. Answer: Ive had to use the right trun lane lane, the two center lanes, part of the left hand turn lane, plus all four lanes of the direction I was going to make it. Just look at the four wheelers like they are stupid sooner of later they will back up and or move out of your way. They get the hint fast when you set the breaks and pick up something to read in the middle of the intersection. Wait until you have to pull through an intersection jack knife the truck up the road that you want to make a right hand turn in fun fun fun. Answer: Do whatever you have to do with the tractor to get the trailer to go where you want it to go. Answer: If it's a legal turn, and it's possible to make the turn in the first place, then you may use as much of the road as necessary. We sometimes have to pull-across traffic (with a spotter - hopefully ) to back-in to dock areas across busy 4-lane streets, etc. Law enforcement generally doesn't mind, and will sometimes help you, if they see you trying to do something logically and legally (no u-turns or turns down restricted streets), they'll let you temporarily block traffic and do gynastics across multiple lanes of travel. If you have to go there, you have to go there. YIf you're going to make yourself the center of EVERYONE's attention, make sure you do it skillfully and safely. If you screw it up, you very well may get more than just a ticket. Answer: Thanks, everyone, for your good help on this question. After spending a little time at this forum, I'm amazed at just how much there is to know! Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
