what to eat on a budget
Question:
any one have suggeston on how to shower eat use tobbaco and laundry on 100 dollers a weak / Answer: buy fifty gallons at most any truckstop earn a free shower. If its one of the chain truck stops (petro, pilot, ta, flyin hook), and most likely it will be you'll be able to save and accrue free showers for use at any location of that particular chain. Never worry about tobacco costs, just buy it as I need it. I supoose a person could save some cash buy finding a cheap place and buying in bulk but I dont bother with it. I am only out 5 to 6 days at a time so I only carry enough clean clothes to last that long and wash em at the house. Eats, get the best deli meats money can buy at a Kroger, or Food Lion. A loaf of bread, some corn or potato chips. I also get carrots, radishes, and some of that prewashed-prepackaged hearts of romaine lettuce (Fresh Express or Dole brand) to top my sandwiches off with. Carry Mustard, Mayo, salt, pepper. I buy about a dozen tomatoes every 3 to 4 days and eat them like apples just for a quick snack. Wal Mart has these tortilla wrapped finger snacks that are good, they have ham, lettuce and some other stuff on em, forget what they're called. I get swiss chees to top off my turkey sandwiches and banannas dont forget those, the universal food. A 12 pack of cokes is handy but if you want to keep the weight off stay away from all colas, diet included, they will make you just as fat as regulars. All in all I eat pretty good for about fifty to sixty bucks a week. Sometimes it does get kinda bland though and I go out find a good resturaunt somewhere, preferably one not located in a truck stop and without one of those "professional driver" areas, when you see, hear and smell some of the drivers in one of those you'll understand where I'm coming from. I prefer to eat and enjoy my meals in a quiet place. Answer: Wal Mart has these tortilla wrapped finger snacks that are good, they have ham, lettuce and some other stuff on em, forget what they're called they're called Lavosh, krogers has em too. Four of em to a pack for about 2 bucks. They are really good finger food snacks. Answer: Last I knew, Pilot showers didn't accrue. You had 5 days to use a ticket before it expired. Petro's accrues, but expires after a time, I forget how long. I know I once had 2 showers on the card, but I didn't use it in a while (since I couldn't make it back to one to fuel), and by the time I did make it back to one, they were no longer on the card. The hook is the best, since you can accrue showers there and they never expire. :-) =============================== I'm not a truck driver, I'm a professional tourist! Answer: I knew a driver who had a small Coleman gas grill he kept in his truck. he would buy a steak, chicken breast, pork chop, whatever and grill it up when he parked. He got some stares from other tuckers but when they saw he had big shrimp and beef kebabs going, they wanted some! Answer: Lose the tobacco! A 2 pack a day smoking habit burns up $50 a week. And for what? An early grave, and your last years spent hacking and wheezing. WHY IS MY BEER DARKER THAN YOUR COFFEE?? Answer: Hm...as far as eating cheaply, then I say that it shouldn't be too hard: 1.) Avoid truckstops at all costs, as well as all resteraunts if you can .I treat myself to one meal at a resteraunt no more than one time a week, you'll save a hell of a lot of money that way. 2.) Buy a 12V cooler to keep food in, while you shop at Sam's Club, Save-A-Lot, or some other discount food place to eat good stuff at cheap price... 3.) When I go home, I usually precook enough meals to last a week and a half, including chicken noodle soup, fried rice mixes, things like that. Last well and taste better than most resteraunt/truckstop food. Hope this helps. Answer: Sandwiches and cereal. I use to buy sandwiche stuff and cereal. Cereal makes a great meal anytime of day .And its cheap. I also would make cup o noodles ( mt the juice ) and throw in some canned chili with it. Just add a little hot sauce in it and it makes a quick meal. I would spend maybe 40 bucks at walmart and get alot of stuff 4 the week. Go to the deli and look for stuff thats on sale ,then have em cut you a couple pounds. Smoking- if your realy hard up for cash, I would get a pack bugles for like 2.00 bucks and roll my own smokes. Actually for 40 or 50 bucks you could eat like a king. I did. Answer: Sounds very un-21st century, but swap the cigarettes for a pipe. There is a good supply of quality tobaccos available in true tobacco/cigar shops (definitely not in drugstores or supermarkets!), and so-called "seconds" pipes that smoke just as good as "firsts" aren't expensive either. Pipes are also healthier than cigarettes, if not as good as no tobacco at all. $10 a week should keep you in smoke. DD Answer: I look for and make a note of the "driver friendly" WalMart Superstores. I usually get about 8-10 of their homemade individual apple pies, a pound or so of baby swiss cheese (sliced) a couple boxes of Ritz crackers, and now I get those quart plastic jars of tropical fruit or sliced peaches. I'm trying to cut back on soda, but I usually get a 12 pack of small plastic bottles along with a 12 pack of bottled water to drink. Water quenches your thirst much better and goes a lot farther. If I'm going to be out for more than a week, I also get Italian roast beef from Wal-Mart. Excellent sanwiches. Or hard salami. Salami keeps a lot better/longer. I can make a good meal of the above items at a lot less cost than one ,meal in a T/S. Anybody else have any ideas? Better to have it and not need it as need it and not have it!Just remember:If the world did'nt suck, you'd fall off! The more I see and read about Republicans and Democrats, the more I wish we had an Independent Party. IMPEACH BUSH!!!!!!!!!! Answer: i used to work for kroger in the deli and those wraps? all you do is take a flour tortilla and some dill dip that you can get at kroger or fry's in the deli in the packaged foods in front of the deli like where the gourmet cheeses are. if you can't find it ask someone at the deli every kroger has it. anyway take a flour tortilla spread the dill dip on it then take some sliced ham (thin) which obviously you can also get at the deli its also cheaper if you get it at the deli so get some ham sliced thin put it over the layer of dill dip then take some tomatoes sliced thin so you can roll them then top with alfalfa sprouts or shredded lettuce if you prefer roll it up and slice it in even slices and there you go. Answer: If your lazy like me and don't want to cook food or buy a bunch of crap I usually hit up the dollar menu at whatever fast food chain and about $3 later I'm full. Answer: Stagnetvirus, LOL I loved those 1.00 menus. On a good day I would even get a frosty. God bless Wendys. Answer: Does anyone know if they make a refrig. with a big freezer unit for trucks? You can buy those frozen dinners "Healty Choice or similar" that aren't too bad. But you have to keep them frozen. MM Answer: www.coolmatic.net i have also seen portable freezers out on ebay.
