Felony and background check
Question:
I
Then you need to look for companies that either do not go to Canada or that have a no forced dispatch policy in regards to Canada.
Now you want to know what the worst case scenario would be.
You fail to list the felony on your application, you get hired and sent on a run to Canada. At the border you are stoppe and not allowed entry due to your felony conviction. You call your company and they tell you to park the truck, clean your stuff out and find your own way home. The company keeps your paycheck to recover he costs of having to send a driver after the truck and another one after the load. They then place in your DAC file terminated for lying on your application and you have one hell of a time finding work.
Or.
By some chance you slip through customs and run into some problems in Canada and they arrest you for being an illegal alien.
Now given the nature and age of your conviction you may also be able to obtain what is called a "Ministers Permit" from the Canadian goverment. This would allow you entry into the country for the purpose of performing work within their country. The permits do cost money and are only good for a year or three. I really do not know the details, but it may be something for you to look into. Contact a Canadian embassey/consulate or Canadian Immigration annd they should be able to help you on this.
I will always be a mutter trucker at heart.

Answer:
Raggs, they can only go back ten years. It's the law. Even if they did come across it later, it can't be held against you.
First of all they hire A private firm to check your CDL information, you know....tickets, warrents, suspensions, drunk driving, etc...etc...
The second check is done off your SSN. The same firm is provided the last ten years of your record if you have any. If they were to fingerprint you and request a complete record from the FBI, then your felony would 'pop' up.
How do I know this? well I wasn't exactly the perfect citizen at age 18 so I landed myself into some hot water, these included weapons violations. None of these convictions ever came up when I applied. They did two background checks and found 'squat' It was past 10 years.
Also I worked at a company and a person in Human resouces told me investigative reports only can go back so far to protect the rights of a company and people.
