Answer:
I think you should go for it. Get the license and go to work for Gramps. Not a bad deal. Who cares about DAC. You just leave before being assigned a trainer. Then your not really an employee and nothing to file to DAC on.
Do it, why not. Who cares about honesty anyway?

Answer:
Honestly that sounds pretty underhanded to me. Being that you are plotting a way to get your CDL free of all scruples, I don't suppose it matters to you that you can make minute rice almost as fast as many carriers train you to drive.

Answer:
so I have serious doubts you will listen here, but oh well. Lets try it.
1. I do not know how many times I have heard a someone say "My Gramps (or Aunt, Uncle, Brother, etc.) can get me a job" only to have that job fall through. Unless your Gramps does the hiring for this company he can not garuntee you a job.
2. The cost of insuring a newbie is outrageous and that is why there a so few companies any more that will hire them. I am just wondering which one of these O/O's is going to be willing to fork out the extra money to insure you, not to mention the company itself that may end up having to pay extra for cargo and liability insurance.
3. If you bail on Stevens (or any company sponsored driving school) you will probably not recieve your diploma and the trucking companies and insurance companies like to see that diploma.
4. If you bail on Stevens you may end up owing for the entire amount of the school within 30 days if not sooner depending on the wording of the contract, and if you dont pay up you may find yourself taken to court and then have attorney fees and court costs to pay as well as having wage garnishments follow you around for a long time which will seriously hurt your credit rating.
One final thing here. You said your Grandpa said to get your CDL and "some training". Do you have any idea what he really meant by some training? After all CDL schools do not really provide training. They provide instruction to allow you to pass the CDL exams and that is about it. Companies provide the actual training. What you learn in school is only the tip of the iceberg of what you need to know to be a productive and effective and safe driver.
I will always be a mutter trucker at heart.

Answer:
That's all great, but I am going to school from 8am-5pm Monday through Friday for 6 weeks. (240 hours) I am being drilled over every inch of the truck and driving in circles for hours on end and then backing up for more hours. Actually more hours going backwards than forwards.
Then I go to SNI on November 3rd, for the same 11 days of training (120 hours) that those that have never seen a truck before get, sans the one year contract complete with sword of damocles clause.
I don't know... I like my chances out there with 360 hours of instruction a whole lot more than I do with 120. Not that 360 is even enough, I am just saying that I appreciate the opportunity that I have to go to a private school first. Not everyone has that option though, so the carrier school is a good choice.

Answer:
rookie,
E-mail me and I can tell you how to get your training for free with no strings attached--no loan, nothing to re-pay ever and it's all legal.
