Team Pay
Question:
How does team split work? SAy 5000 miles, does each driver get payed for the 5000 or do you split the total? TIA for any info

Answer:
Normally miles are split. Another way to look at it is truck gets $.30/mile. Rate (miles x pay per mile) to the truck is split between the drivers. BOL

Answer:
Make many, many phone calls. A few companies are sneaky and will "split" the miles and the pay, winding up paying a total of half and not a penny more. These seem to be getting fewer and farther between, but it's important to ask.
Also ask about safety and other bonuses. You want bonuses to be paid equally. For example, if the safety bonus is 1 cpm, ASK if that's 1 cpm per driver or a 1 cpm split. Ditto any other bonuses, fuel, longevity, sign-on, referral, etc. Never assume a darn thing where your money is concerned. If you get to orientation and the paperwork says different from what your recruiter told you, believe the paperwork. If you wind up miserable during orientation, you might consider trying someplace else. If you're miserable during orientation, it probably won't get any better. I can't count the drivers who have said, "Wish I'd never gotten in so-and-so's truck, should've left after (or during) orientation."
If you decide to move on, be honest and up-front about it - and TALK to someone before you leave, if that's what you wind up doing. Someone like the HR director. Don't just disappear. Ask if it will go on your DAC. Then get it in writing. If they say no it won't go on your DAC but then don't want to scribble out a note on company letterhead, move up the chain of command a notch until you get that piece of paper. Just be sure you aren't leaving any stones unturned behind you that will come back to haunt you, or worse, smack you in the head.

That's Why in MY Book the ONLY way to run team is if it's a Hubby/Wife Team.(otherwise it's just Not feasable to run team with someone you are NOT married to...b/c the Money will go to SEPERATE bank accounts.)
Which would almost be the same as Two Solo Drvrs Drving the Same trk.

Answer:
Agreeing with everything mentioned before, also consider how the miles with the company average out if you are solo vs team.....Some companies may give a solo driver an ave per week of say 2000-2400 miles where as a team may be run on average of 4200-5500 miles per week.... Already you can see who gets the most miles. Also some companies pay a premium of say 5 -8 cents per mile more for team then they would pay a solo driver with the same experience.... You'd come out with better pay with team miles split at say 34 cents a mile than going solo at 27 cents a mile....for instance.....so check to see what the diferences are.....
Some advantages to teaming may be that you can pool you resources and share some items i.e. refrigerator, entertainment expenses (t.v., xm radio, video collections etc.) and split some work to keep 'on duty not driving' down to a minimum of log-time, swap out and keep the rig moving. The down side is sharing of space, compatibility issues, and trying to get one's rests when another one is driving over roads that are bumpy, or during hook ups and unloads, or stop and go traffic.
I plan where I'm going
'Cause I know where I've been.

Answer:
In my ever-so-humble opinion, being married team drivers is the best way to go. Not possible for everyone out there, but it works great for us. Course we're well into our marriage and know we get along and know what to avoid and how to resolve the few differences within the confined space of a truck and all that kind of stuff.
I think the best part is not having to do everything, all the time, by yourself. You learn to work together very effectively.
On the mileage issue, more than double the miles are expedited to the teams because they don't have to do it all by themselves. A good team can keep the truck rolling almost constantly. However, since team-oriented companies do a lot for teams of any persuasion, those higher miles can help even two separate bank accounts. It's all in what you want and what works for your unique situation.
One thing is for sure, I wouldn't enjoy my job nearly so much if it weren't for my team-mate. Course my life in general wouldn't be nearly so enjoyable, either!
