Welcome to Live Dialogue !!!

Spending money on the road,I must be doing something wrong.
Question:
Five days out last week I spent $7 on the road along with the $25 to fill the cooler. I listen to other drivers that spend over $100 for food.

Answer:
You must enjoy living like a Pauper or don't eat much.

Answer:
hey i am usually out 5 or 6 days a week..and id be lucky to spend 60.00 bucks..and i eat very well...at least 1 meal a day in a truckstop....i just dont buy all the **** and junk food... ...

Answer:
Is eating at a truckstop considered eating well?

Answer:
You are doing it right. Most drivers (newbie or otherwise) do not realize how expensive it is to try to live on the road.
I have a built-in fridge. That is where most of my meals come from. I am an O/O making good enough money to eat at the truck stops, but do not want to spend that much money. Also, try not to stock your cooler or fridge at the truck stops. You might as well go sit down in the cafe.

Answer:
You can eat "well" at truckstops if you know what to eat. A Team Driver for an LTL carrier eating cold cuts out of a cooler is not eating "well".

A person should have at least one balanced and nourishing meal a day. Some truck stops offer this, most don't. There are plenty of places to stop along the road driver.

Sounds to me like you have a good handle on your finances. And take care of your needs instead of letting the wants get into the way....
Good Luck!!

I don't feel that a person has to spend money eating "out" in order to have a Balanced & Noutrious meal.
When I was OTR, I ate Balanced & Nourtious meals & did NOT eat "out".
My meals were also Seasoned to MY Taste.
I(or my Sister), Cook & Freeze HomeCooked meals for me to eat while OTR.
Since I had appliances in the trk I would Steam Fresh Veggies in the trk.
I also like to fix a nice fresh tossed salad w/most of my meals.
When I had a lay over during the Summer I would go to the grocery store & get some things for the Grill.(ribs, steaks, corn-on-the-cob, kabobs, etc.)
Since I Like to Eat....I usually spent anywhere from $20-$40(average) at the grocery store.

Eating Balanced & Noutrious meals is EXACTLY the Reason I Prepare my Own meals.(so that I can be SURE that they ARE Balanced & Noutrious.)
Not to mention the fact that...
On nice days I like to find a picnic table somewhere & read a little after I eat.(or play Solitaire on my LapTop.)

Continue to do as you have been doing...Don't let anyone Try to talk you into doing otherwise.

Cold Cuts!!! Not hardly. Rewarding myself for a day on the road with a delicious and nutricious meal at a truckstop, now that's something to look foward to.
Most trips are 2 days out and then home, that's my reward. 5 days out is an extra trip in the middle of the week and a rarity.
No red meats on the road, plenty of salads. Cereal for brakfast with fruit and low fat milk. Plenty of fruits and vegetables and cheeses. I make pasta salad, tuna salad and chicken salad. I happen to like peanut butter so that's a regular.
Driving team the worst mistake you can make is eating heavy and then going right to the sleeper.

Answer:
"two days out and then home" That doesn't quite fall into the catagory of and OTR truck driver. Your able to refresh every couple days at home. Not to mention have a hot meal while your there. Can't do that when you in a truck 3 -4 weeks at a time.
Realistically drivers are going to spend alot more than you do while on the road. With an average of $10 - $13.00 for a meal at a TS it adds up fast.

I agree, most T/S food is swill and leaves drivers with a bad taste in their mouths which somehow get conveyed onto the CB.
I eat good out of a cooler, make 6-8 subs before I leave for the week and I'm still gaining weight.Too much MT.DEW

Answer:
Some will never get it. They see drivers like me go to Walmart and buy the hambuger, steaks and deli meat and say I am living like a paper? O well. These are the same people that say they can not make the 1100 house payment or figure out how some can afford a nice car, boat, R/V and vacations every year. I think I will keep eating out of the truck. This George forman grill has saved me 1000's.202 N Main Street

TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE!

Answer:
I completely agree with daytrader.
Learn how to budget your money and quit complaining about not being able to make that payment, or just quit complaining altogether. That's what I believe in. I live in a very, very nice neighborhood in the greater Billings area, yet I'm a trucker. When I go home every week or so, I have two nice cars to hop into that I can choose from. I can pay the bills, save some, and even afford to take my family on vacation at least once a year. And I'm not living a sh*tty life on the road while I'm at it.
I don't mean to hold myself above others, because I know that I'm not greater than anybody else, but I think I serve as an example that one can live good on the road and at home without killing your finances.
Also, no cash advances for me. No way. They get addictive after a while, and you become VERY dependent...
Also, I suppose I should note that I am currently makng .32 cents a mile, and I'm out about 10 days at a time...I average about 400 miles a day, therefore, you figure, I earn about $128 per day before taxes...I get to keep about 60% of my overall salary, therefore, you figure, I get about $75 - $77 per day. I spend less than $60 a week for myself when it comes to eating and other personal expenses out on the road.
Also, stay away from those lot lizards. They tend to take a lot of money away from you, with sex being something that you can obtain for free more than 99% of the time if you actually get out of the truck. When I drove team early in my career, my mate would often have women hanging all over him at no cost. Logic, please?
Excuse the endless rambling...
