Confessions of a Swift trainer
Question:
Hi all, well its been a year and a half at Swift and I'm pround to say its over. I'm taking 1 more student out then I have a good paying local job waiting. Honestly I dont have the patience for it anymore. It was great my first 6 months but the last year has been HARD TIME! For you newbies I would like to suggest picking your new company carefull and staying there at least 6 months. In my opinion 6 months u should be ready for a local job if thats what u want. I never wanted to go OTR, but unfortunatly lot of companys want 1 yr of experience. So were at the mercy of OTR companys. I tell my students when you start solo, its gonna be rough as hell the first 6 months. Be prepared. And don't take no crap from shippers, recievers, and office boys. Oh and owner/operators J/k. Anyways I would just like to say Swift worked for me cause I made it work. And 1 more thing if u switch companys stay away from USELESS XPRESS Answer: Originally posted by nofxn40s: Hi all, well its been a year and a half at Swift and I'm pround to say its over. For you newbies I would like to suggest picking your new company carefull and staying there at least 6 months... I made it work. And 1 more thing if u switch companys stay away from USELESS XPRESS Thanks for the input. I have been pre-hire by Swift. I am waiting to finish school on the 17 of July. I,ve been searching for other otr companies also to have a choice. My school buddy was turned down by Swift cause they stop hiring from South Florida area. So we are looking for other company. We would like to get a job at the same place. We hear all kind of stories from one extreme to the other. Thank's for the advice. I guess the first year we have to bite the bullet no matter which route we will take. Answer: your Swift.....right here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I kinda figured this was gonna happen. I am initiating Plan B. Glad you're getting a nice local job. It really helps having that 1.5 yrs under your belt. Unfortunately where Nick and I live local doesn't pay worth a squirt. Oh well....off to go apply to reefer companies! Answer: Well I'm not exactly happy with Swifty either. I just got home from attending 3 days of "hell" they call oreintation. What a joke!! I have never seen a bigger bunch of incompitant people in a company. 64 people attended orientation and they only had trainers for 5 of us.... Now I know that they probably couldnt get 64 trainers in one area either, but I really think some more planning might have prevented the other 59 who got a kick in the a** and a bus ticket to "go home and wait for a trainer" might have prevented alot of P O'ed people. Who might I add were all told to make sure you have everything you need to go out with a trainer when you attend oreintation. After yesterday from what I saw I was not at all impressed with Swift. They are anything but! Answer: sounds about normal for todays trucking companies ======================= "I ain't paying somebody to work" Would sooner work and complain about not getting paid for it. Answer: I hope you found a good paying local job. I havn't worked local in a few years. I was in the local 682 and did ok. I drove for a construcion copany and though I had it made. To say the least I am now out of the union and out on the road. Good luck. The right job is out there you just have to find it. The best jobs will pay the least. It seems the local guys in St louis know that there are plenty of OTR drivers looking for a good driving job and they keep the pay low. The constucion industry pays the most in St. louis, but you will work your but off.202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE!
