Filling out a job application.
Question:
When applying for driving jobs be sure to fill out your application completely. Do not omit information. If you have a criminal record be up front about it. If you have any tickets that are still on your MVR admit to them and list every one as accurately as possible. Be sure to account for all time in the last 10 years of your life in your employment information.
Ommissions, even accidental, are often viewed as an applicant being dishonest, and more often than not will result in your application being denied on the spot.
If there is something you are not sure about talk to the recruiter and ask.
Before filling out a job application be sure to have the following information on hand.
1. Employment info, including phone numbers and addresses, for the past 10 years. Attending school does count as "employment".
2. A copy of your current MVR so you will know what you need to list in for your driving record.
3. Names, numbers, and addresses of at least 2, preferaby 3, personal refrences, who are not related to you.
4. Documentation to acount for periods of unemployment or self employment longer than 30 days in the past 3 years. This can be letters of refrence, tax info, unemployment benifits statements, etc.
5. If a vet, copies of your discharge paperwork.
6. If you have less than 3 years driving experience a copy of your "diploma" and the name, number, and address or the driving school you attended.
Also be sure to have all this info with you when you attend orientation as you will more than likely wind up filling out a new application the first day, or at the very least have to provide al or part of it at some point.

However, many employers don't care to take the time to make a determination as to whether or not a person applying is new to trucking or an old hand. So to simplify their life most carriers ask for 10 years regardless of how long a person has driven a CMV.
and that right there is the reason I said to just make sure you had all of the last 10 years in order....just to make the applicants life easier.
