KTL Transportation or Transport America, That is the questio
Question:
Hey everyone, I haven't been on here in a while but I need some advice. I have a choice between KTL Trans. or Transport America. I know KTL is the sister company to TMC. I just need to know which company is the better of the two. I think they are both excellent companies and the pay on each is pretty much the same. I like the Tranport America home time. If what I was quoted on the home time is the truth. If someone knows what the home time for Transport America is let me know. And I don't mean what a recruiter or website told you I mean from someone who has actually driven for them. I like both companies eventhough KTL's home time is a little worse. But I would like to run flatbed because I would rather tarp than unload a 53 foot trailer. Anyway thanks for any advice that I may get on this topic. Answer: Come on folks please I need some advice. I also forgot that I also have an oppurtunity to go with a company named American Eagle Lines someone please tell me if they know anything about them also. #3 still the man to beat in my heart and always will be but dang it go #8. Answer: Give it some time. Most responses dont come over night. Give it a week, or better yet wait tell the week end comes than you will get if any responses you need. You can always do a search if your in that much of a hurry. No offence but I would rather choose the dry van over the flatbed. Reasons why. Yes you may have to unload freight on a dry van but than again you might just have drop and hook, which is alot easier. As with flatbed, dont say you like tarping until you have done it in the rain, wind, or in freezing weather. Oh and lets not forget those 120lb or so lumber tarps. Oh and lets not forget the cheater bar, gives way and smacks you right in the face and loose a few teeth in the process. Steve Answer: Well it looks like KTL transport is not going to hire me. My application wasn't approved. I guess I should of asked them why but the recruiter kind of P!ssed me off. I was told to call back today to find out if they had finished processing my application. I call and sit on hold for a few minutes, which I don't mind. Guy then comes back and says "What's your social!" real rude like but I am just thinking he's having a bad day maybe so I don't take it personal. So I give him my social and he comes back and says "Sorry, your app was denied!" and then 'click' and a dial tone. Guy just hangs up on me with telling me why my app was rejected. I started to call back and ask why but I figured what's the use I don't really what to drive for someone whose recruiter's treat people that way. So anyone with good or bad info on transport america please let me know. I know I don't have to worry about them not hiring me I am just waiting till after the fourth of July to leave. First they are going to have me take a physical somewhere close to where I live so that is something I won't have to worry about when I get to orientation. #3 still the man to beat in my heart and always will be but dang it go #8. Answer: More than likely you would have not recieved an answer, and while I will agree it was rude for the recruiter to just hang up on you he probably did it to avoid having to hear for the hundredth time "Why was my application denied, I dont understand............." and on and on. Sometimes it is very difficult to understand why companies will hire one driver and not another. I have applied to various companies over the years with better qualifications than friends who have applied to the same company and while I was denied they were hired. Just buck up and move on. It may be they did you a favor. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: I had a similar telephone contact with a KTL recruiter months ago. I was sent some information from the company and then I called the recruiter to discuss what they had sent me. The woman on the phone was abrupt and short and must have had her Post Toasties p***ed in that morning. If it ain't one thing, it's another. Answer: Makes me wonder if the person(s) that is responsible for paying for all their advertising for recruiting actually knows that the effort is being wasted by someone who may have just "had their wheaties P****d in"? Know how to get the phone numbers to the powers that be???? Truth is stranger than fiction, because fiction. . . has to make sense. Answer: I thought about going with Transport America, they were actually 2nd or 3rd on my list, untill I read on there homepage that 2 out of 4 of there top execs had no trucking experiance. They are run by shareholders. The other company I looked at but decided against was Trans Am out of Olathe, KS, but they don't run west of the Rockies aka "hello east coast!! Drive on! bandit58.... Answer: Not to start an argument or anything, but I would rather have my executive's of my trucking company be a business man. They have there purpose. That is to make everyone in the company money. I think as long as the Driver's Manager's or dispatcher's have some sort of driving experience you are usually alright. Even dispatcher's that have no driving experience are alright as long as they know what they are doing and have some trucking dispatching experience. I haven't actually heard anything to awful bad about the management of the company or there dispatcher's and driver manager's. In fact the only one bad thing I have heard is they have supposedly put false info on one guy's DAC. I didn't think that was a bad track record for a company who run's over 1,000 trucks. If it ain't broke modify it, that's what I do. Funny thing is it alway's end's up falling apart. Can't quite figure it out. That is to make everyone in the company money. When the top people have no direct experience in what a company does (not just trucking but any type of biz) they then have to hire people who do know what is going on. The problem here is that it is far too easy for the exec to be victim of even a moderately good song and dance and end up hiring people who can talk the talk but have no clue how to walk the walk. I do agree that the top people do need to have a head for business, but they also really need some first hand knowledge as to what the company they are heading does and what it takes to do it. " It's real doubtful thats why they hung up. They most likely did it because he wasn't going to make them money. Why waiste time when you can get onto a better prospect. Most are comissioned salesmen and women. As far as the company being run by non truck drivers. That could be a good thing. Experienced drivers might want you to run the way they use to. Business men have a little greater fear of the law and not as likely to require the crap others do. maybe not. Great Stuff "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of all who threaten it" Answer: Truckin'InTexas as far as KTL is Concerned, there was like 8 People In My Truckin Class, That Got Turned Down By Them. One guy Got Turned Down By KTL, Then Got Hired By Crete Go Figure. I Have Talked to Two Transport America Drivers,Both of Them Said That 4 yrs ago They were Like The Best Company Out There. But Both Also Said They Have Closed Down Terminals, And Are Getting Very Few Miles. One Of the Drivers was Leasing His Truck Thru TA. He Said He was going To Schneider a Week later I after talked to Him. Doesnt Sound Good To Me. Im From The Dallas Area and TA Just Closed Down There Terminal In Garland. Makes Me Wonder If They Are Gonna Make it Thru The Big Company Buyouts And Such. Anyway Just My Two Cents Worth. Good Luck. Answer: Not accurate. When I leave on the fifth of July I have to go to the terminal in Garland. It could be that they have moved there terminal. I have talked to one driver who lives about 12 miles frome me who get's good mileage and hometime. I just don't want to base my decision on just him though. If it ain't broke modify it, that's what I do. Funny thing is it alway's end's up falling apart. Can't quite figure it out. Answer: Sorry Tool Man you are only partly right. I have spoken with the Company and asked them about this. They haven't really closed the terminal it is just up for sale. They want to do one of two things with that whole situation. 1. They want to lease most of the terminal out with some sort of company and have an agreement to keep their terminal there. 2. If they can't do the above they want to sale the whole thing and move to somewhere else in either the Garland or Mesquite area. From my undrestanding of if they still have some trucks their just not as many and they still have their fuel island at that particular place. Also from my understanding from it the place is quite large and looks quite empty most of the time. If it ain't broke modify it, that's what I do. Funny thing is it alway's end's up falling apart. Can't quite figure it out. Answer: TRUCKING IN TEXAS.. you need to realize that trucking companies will say anything and everything it takes to get a driver to work for them....i dont know about them closing yards down....but i do know they are having trouble....they do alot of hons office furniture loads out of iowa.....intill you have to help unload one of these you have no idea how long it takes....they lost polaris out of spirit lake iowa.....because of late delivers...this was a major account they got when they bought out north star a few years back..this has to hurt them....hope you have good luck with them......
