Welcome to Live Dialogue !!!

Wouldn't you know it?!?!
Question:
All the planning and getting ready for the magic "Why don't we take a walk?" question has been put on hold....
In a nutshell, I was told back in April, that my job was going away since we hadn't received any contracts for product training for almost eight months.
So! I decided to milk them as long as I could and still get my CDL back. My bailout plan so to speak. Busted my buns to get through the classes, got my pre-hires and was all set for the axe to fall last week.
What happens? A contract!!! Guess I get to hang loose for a little longer..... We have a training contract for the New York area at least through the end of July. And then? Oh well, at least the domestic engineer is happy that she doesn't have to touch our savings for a little while longer....
I know my job here is almost gone though. There's lots of talk about out-sourced training in the next few months and most of the customers have training facilities in place.
Plans are put on hold, but now it's not a panic plan. I'll be able to go into it informed and with a good solid plan.
Y'all be safe out there....!!!!
BTW - Some of you O/O's in the Dallas area wouldn't need a part-timer for the weekends would you???

Atleast you have more time to find a better job.

You'll probably need refresher training to satisfy the big companies once your school completion is over 90 days. You may want to ask a few carriers that you're interested in about that.

Absolutely!! Unfortunately, I'm in a no-win situation as far as the telco industry goes. I have all the technical and managerial experience any company could ask for, but it's going to boil down to the fact that I'm up against all the young bloods out there who have college degrees and will work a lot cheaper than I will.
Also, the telco "boom" is over. Oh, it's going to recover for a little while, but no more "honeymoon" jobs for a long time. Now the pruning of the high-cap workers is going to start and the young bloods are going to be rehired..... Corporate reality...
I started at the bottom five years ago and worked my way up. Now it looks like I'll have to do it again, but through research, planning and by "listening" to the folks in this forum, I've been able to approach this entire change in life in better shape than I did my last one... I think I can get on with one of the better companies and make a good solid living. I won't get rich, but judicious planning and working the plan will provide a living for my lady and me.
I know it's a hard life and you have to really work at being smart how you handle yourself and your time, not only on the road but when your at home. But like I've said before, this isn't the first time I've done this and so I know what I'm getting into.
Thanks for your solid advice.!!! - Art

I was in the same situation last year! Knew I was going to get layed off, but when?! Then got the 60 day notice and finally the 2 week notice, then the door! No way was I going to leave before I had to, they had a reputation of cancelling notices right up to the last day!
Good luck, hope all works out for you! Stay in touch!
I may go back to Roehl after the first of the month!
