Hello everyone!!
I have completed the 20 day program for Swift and I am happy to say that I passed everything with flying colors. Actually had the 2nd highest average in the entire class. I have alot of information to tell, but right now I have only been home for about an hour and had the bus ride from hell.
Greyhound=sucks!!!
I will fill everyone in on my experience this evening, and will be more than happy to answer any questions.

I've been speaking to a recruiter for a few months now, and every time I get "oh yes we hire from Fort Lauderdale"
Today the story is different. They don't hire lower than Ft. Pierce. (hour and a half north of me)
I'm not too happy with Swift right now........but best of luck to you!

we had 4 guys from florida in our class. from Ocala and Orlado and Daytona beach. Heck....you are alive and breathing...thye will hire you....I saw first hand....LOL...I'll have more on my 20 days in Millington later tonight.

This post has absolutely nothing to do with anything but I have to say - if more truckers looked like "Big Chicken" (check the photo album) I would have been a trucker decades ago!

I can tell you this much about Swift. They never have had a real strong presence in Florida and what few customers they do have down there change all the time and while I was with them a few years ago pretty much all of thier customers were up in the Jacksonville area.
It may be that a month or two ago they had accounts in the southern part of the state and have since lost those accounts and changed their hiring area policies for Florida, or then again it may be possible that the recruiter you were talking to was a former dispatcher and doesn't know how to read a map.
I will always be a mutter trucker at heart.

Lot of drivers here at KLLM from Florida. A lot of them run regional. Some OTR. The only thing I don't know about is where you would leave the trk/trl on days off. Unless you have property you would have to get a permission letter.
KLLM a much better choice than Swift. I started at Swift too. Swift sucks big ones.

Today we find our fearless trucker with a different story than before.
My buddy in school called his recruiter in Memphis and she said the one I talked to is full of beans. They absolutely do hire from my area.
So all the necessary paperwork gets faxed next weeek, and we shall see.
Mudbug, I spoke to a KLLM recruiter and they said no Miami/Fort Lauderdale....as does everyone else.

If you breathe and can hear and see and have a good background then they will hire you. I saw firsthand how many people they have not only in school everyweek, but at orientation every week.
I was in memphis for the last 3 weeks and while at the terminal one friday afternoon I saw an orientation class of over 90 people there. And like I said before in the class I was in we had 4 guys from all parts of Florida.
