Question ??
Question:
About to make a career change... Are these good companies to work for.? Werner, Schneider, Swift and Us-Xpress How good is there CDL training I think there is some truth to this. . .Which company??? What color truck do you want to drive? Love is blind and marriage is an institution. If you fall in love and get married, it's an institution for the blind. Answer: Newfman has it right as far as it goes. Training with a company has the advantage of your being trained to do it the way the company wants you to. Even CDL School grads have to go through company on-the-job training because all they have is a VERY BASIC skill set. Meaning, they could get around the DPS course without killing themselves. --> --> All four companies you named have good training for their company. I strongly recommend you start reading and researching everything you can about trucks, loads, trip planning before you go through any sort of training to build your knowledge base. The more you know, the easier it is to understand the concepts of handling a 40 Ton vehicle. Good luck!! --> ########################################################### I ride for those who can't! Lead, Follow or get out of my way!!! Answer: The reason being is with trucking companies what is heaven for one person is often the oppositte for another. When looking for a company (as a newbie or as an experienced driver)you need to first make a list of YOUR wants, desires, priorites, etc. Hometime, type of equipment you want to haul (vans, flatbed, reefer, etc.) rider policies, pet policies, vacation, insurance bennies, part of the country run in, etc. Then you need to find the companies that will hire from where you live and will hire you with your experience level. Next you need to thouroughly interview those companies and write down the answers to your questions, and finally compare those companies until you find the one that will hire you that comes closest to meeting your needs at that time. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. _________________ RC Universe Answer: I personally would add www.Schneider.com and www.Roehl.Net also www.Millistransfer.com if you are in their hiring areas. The only thing that would concern me is US Express has automatic transmissions. If you start with US Express and then try to move to another company, changing from automatic to stick could be a problem. Answer: Thanks for the info... Guys I was thinking about Swift,Schneider or Werner cause they offer training in my state I would also like to get my CDL from my home state.... Roehl and Milltransfer seem to only have opening on the Eastern USA.... Do anybody know about Gordon trucking they out my way they takes newbies and start out @ .27 or.28 cpm. My next problem / Question is should I kick out 4000.00 and go to a CDL school ??? I know only I can answer that but any input would help.... Answer: Check out the community or tech colleges out there. They're usually alot cheaper and generally longer than the private schools. From what I've seen and read here they give you better training than the CDL Mill schools. Not a problem, just a situation. I did in fact shell out the money for a couple reasons. First, I'm still employed in my Telco job. Second, I didn't want to be tied into any one company for a year or more repaying a debt for training. One advantage to going through a company school, is they know the level of training you receive. Good or bad, they have to "educate" you into their way of doing things. Almost all the large carriers have good, solid training, but the decision is up to you. Keep in mind though, even if you get trained by a company, having a CDL doesn't mean you know how to drive, it just means you now have a license to learn. --> --> Good luck!! ########################################################### I ride for those who can't! Answer: Like you, I too am taking a new direction into the trucking world; I looked at quite a few training companies stretching from Florida to Iowa, seeing as that was in my general area. After calling around to the most popular choices (i.e.) Werner, Schneider, Swift and Us-Xpress and making enquires at truck stops to anyone that would listen, (good tip here is to offer some poor sole a cup of coffee then devour them for information) --> What also helped here was that the were also only 35 miles from where I lived and that was a big plus in choosing them. I hope this was a good choice to make, I will find out on June 16th that’s when I start training with them, I will let everyone Know how that goes by posting on the board…. Hopefully it will give someone some insight to what goes on at his particular company. --> I will try anything once.... Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
