1st year with Millis
Question:
June 6th will be my one year anniversary with Millis. I’ve driven 118,000 miles, not counting miles with my trainer, had one minor accident when I jackknifed my truck in a truck stop and crunched my fairing. I love driving truck but I dislike truck drivers… at least the pigs of the bunch.
Here is my advice for Newbies… keep your CB turned off and avoid truck stops as much as possible lest you become infected with the disease that makes you a vulgar, rude and inconsiderate human being. Keep your left door closed, every time you get out of your truck you loose time. If you have extra time to deliver your load spend it at the end of your trip, that way anything that might cause you to be late will have already happened.
4 Wheelers are part of the job, be wary of them, but don’t judge them too harshly, after you see some of the idiots that claim to be professional drivers and the way they act you will appreciate the predictable and foolish things 4 wheelers do.
Guard your space with a passion. Find a comfortable following distance and keep it. When an idiot professional driver or 4 wheeler decided that they need that space to tailgate the guy in front of you let them… back off to your comfort zone. It amazes me that people will weave in and out of traffic, pass on the right , tailgate, and all other potentially hazardous acts just so they can beat me to the traffic jam.
Give books on tape a try. It doesn’t matter what your interests are there are books that you will find entertaining. I go to the library and get 8 or 10. If I am going to be out beyond the due date I renew them over the phone. Books on tape fill in the time that otherwise might be wasted becoming infected by the CB.
I attend services at the truck stops on Sundays when I can. I am not a strong Christian. I am probably on my way to hell, but the people you meet there are good people.
I have found that a big part of this job, as with any job, is your attitude. Control the things you can accept the things you can’t. Drive safely.
p.s. I honestly believe that the majority of the drivers ARE true professionals, they, like me just stay mostly to themselves.
Some people find fault as if it were buried treasure.

Answer:
Wow Big A....hardly seems like it. How time flies when you are having to dodge idiots out there on the road.....
Glad to see you have learned some of the valuable lessons so many never seem to learn.
Be safe out there and have a good one.
Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe.
