Info on Transport Tech needed.
Question:
I just got back from a tour of the school. I must say I was very impressed. Has anyone gone through them for training? I would appreciate any info good or bad. Thanks

Answer:
I'm also considering TT as a school for my long-awaited and much-deserved career change. I am considering TT because they have two campuses within 20 minutes of my home. But, I have to seriously consider PIA-TDT as well because they offer a PDTI certified course.
I know you posted this question 2 months ago and got no responses, but perhaps you now have some hindsight that you could share with me.

Answer:
You definitely want a PDTI course, big difference!!!

Answer:
I'm trying to determine the advantages between paying $4,000 for the PTDI certified course over say going to SNIs course.
It seems to me that they are about the same length. The difference is that the end of SNI's course has you out in their truck, where the end of the local school ends with you looking for a job.
I can see that I'd be obligated for a year, may take a lot of crap, and get very little money but I am not in it for the money. I do want the best training available though so I'm trying to get all the info above the BS that the recruiters spew.

Arcflash, highly consider Transport Tech. I am going to be going to the school here very soon and from what the carriers tell me that they are one of the best schools in the business. 2 students to a truck and max 8 in a classroom. Extra help if and when you need it with no presure to make your gradution date. Total financing in house and if need be Carrier tution sponsering which include everything From DOT physical to the DOT road test. They have their own apartments for students which aren't bad at all and but, you do share it with one other student but, not the bedrooms those are private . I talked to some students from there and they say the samething, "They will do what it takes to get you your CDL" and they aren't another CDL mill being that you go for 6 weeks. Some campuses will even help you get a job to help with living expenses and bills at home while you are in their class. Plus a very very big benifet, "You Get To Choose Who You Work For When Your Out Of School". Oh and they will do whatever it takes to get you in the drivers seat right out of school. You have nothing to worry about because Transport Tech will talk to company recuiters to get you hired provided you do your part. Plus, If they don't think you are driver material for the trucking companys they wont even let you waste your time and money by going to school .... Something to think about....

Sounds pretty good midnight, thanks! I live right smack dab between their Butler and Bessemer campuses so I could go to either one as they are both 20 minutes from my place.
They are probably the best fit for me, but I want to make sure I am getting the best training I can while not having to do something unreasonable like live in a van down by the river while I train. Of course, by the way I hear some drivers talk, living in a van down by the river might be a good thing to add to OTR training.

Answer:
is a huge benefit. The school Nuclear Nick and I are finishing, we have 7 people in the class. It is nice because there are only two of us to a truck. We each have well over 1100 miles of interstate, backroad and downtown Miami driving.
The big benefit of getting the license on your own is that you aren't indebted to any company. You can go with whomever you wish. There are companies that take newbies that pay a lot more than Schneider. People frown on Swift all the time because of the slow trucks. Schneider trucks are 2 miles per hour faster, but at 1 year Swift pays .29 cpm, whereas with Schneider you won't hit .29 for thre or four years.
Do a lot of research before you jump into this.

Good points, thanks. Yesterday I was leaning towards carrier training, but the smaller class size is definately an attractive feature. I am obsessive about schooling, and the more time I get to be thorough the better.
Honestly, I am not sure what's most important to me about choosing a company. Money isn't really that important as I own all my stuff and live cheap. Once I decide on a school I will have to gather info and ponder that question too.
