Equipment for Roehl newbies
Question:
I know that as a Newbie no company is going to give you a new truck, but what is the condition of the trucks that Roehl assigns it's Newbies? I have heard that Newbies at Schneider can get stuck with some real winners Thanks Answer: Propwash - If you'll do a search under ROEHL, you'll find several threads where this is talked about.. Boiled down, you'll get older equipment at first... How old? Don't know for sure... I'm on my way to ROEHL myself in June so I've been researching the question myself.. ########################################################### I ride for those who can't! POW/MIA - You are NOT forgotten!! Information is power!! The question not asked is the opportunity missed!! My other vehicle is a '99 Electra Glide!!!! I ride for those who can't! Thanks again. Answer: The tractor I got was a 2000 Century it had 290,000 miles on it. Everything worked, even had the cruise on the shift lever! If anything is wrong all you do is write it up and they take care of it. Roehl is good about maintaining equipment! Hope this helps! Drive on! bandit58.... Answer: Originally posted by PROPWASH: Are you getting your CDL through ROEHL or do you already have it? Propwash - Actually, no, I don't have my CDL, yet.. See the thread CDL Training - The weekend route. I'm still employed with my telco company, but after today, the end is nearer than ever... Most of our ISD group was laid off and it's only a matter of time.. But on this thread.. LOL... I happened to talk with a friend who is fairly new at ROEHL and his truck is a 2000 Frieghtliner Century with only 260,000 miles on it. He's in the National fleet but so far he's only run the midwest, no West Coast or East Coast yet. But he's also making the miles over and above what he expected.... Hopefully, I'll see you up at Roehl around the middle of June... ########################################################### I ride for those who can't! POW/MIA - You are NOT forgotten!! Can't quite stand up in the flat tops. Hope I don't get one of those, I've been told that I will be assigned an older one at first and then they will move me into a newer one in 3 or 4 months. I talked to a driver today who was getting his AC fixed and he has a Century Condo, got it the day he graduated phase 2. He's been there 8 months now and is very happy, but he hadn't worked anywhere else. So nothing to compare it to. Every one I've seen has had power windows, locks, cruise, AC, Jake Brake. A few have autoshifters, but those are for the experienced only. You will go through phase 1 and 2 training in a condo with double bunks, after that you get what they give you I guess. I wish it was an all condo fleet like some of the other companies, but those don't pay as well, I guess everything is a trade off. I would rather take home more every week and be a little less comfortable. BTW, where are you going through orientation? I noticed your profile says Illinois, so I assume it's Marshfield. Also, do you make your choice of Van or Flatbeds in Orientation or do you have make the choice before you have an orientation date? Any info would be appreciated... Thanks... ########################################################### I ride for those who can't! POW/MIA - You are NOT forgotten!! Information is power!! Answer: Orientation ended today and I was suppose to leave with my trainer but I guess he needed home time, so we'll leave monday. Looking forward to it. You'll be given a phone interveiw with a recruiter who can answer all your questions about the two divisions. You'll tell them what division you wan't but can change your mind in orientation (I think). The thing that really impressed me was that there were no big surprises when I got there. I hadn't been lied to as I was from the swift, werner, Falcon etc. recruiters. All the drivers there seem happy with the company, I really feel like I've made the right decision. I don't like the way the contract is written but I am 99.9% sure that I'll stay with them so I guess it really doesn't matter. the log sheets are fed through a computer and checked against fuel reciept's and other documentation for accuracy. You will run legal for this company, or not at all. But I'd rather have that than one where you ran illegaly or not at all. They seem to be more concerned with your training than just making money off of you. the trainer isn't allowed to sleep while you drive. Don't be scared about the road test, if you can pass a state test, you'll pass this one. That's about all I have, I'll let you know more when Phase 1 is complete and I'm home again. Everything is falling right in line with what my recruiter told me as well. Now, just to finish the training down here and wait for my company to lay me off... Then I'm headed to ROEHL.... Good luck with your phase I and I'm looking forward to hearing how it went.... ########################################################### I ride for those who can't!
