CDL Medical Exam
Question:
Can somebody tell me what the rules are concerning the DOT medical exam form? Such as am I required to carry the complete medical form with me when I am in my own four wheeler or is the wallet card sufficient?
Thanks AJ

Answer:
You don't have to carry any medical form when you are driving a non CDL vehicle. The medical card only in necessary when using the CDL privlidges of your license.
In the truck, you need either the wallet card or the long form. When in doubt, have the long form handy.
Answer:
I see Sparky's point. If he is stopped for a routine traffic violation an uninformed officer (and there is plenty of them) may also ask for his medical card. Politely explain that it is only required in a commercial vehicle.
I carry my card in my wallet and a copy of the long form in the truck and another at home for safekeeping. If your card is lost just take the long form to the Doctor and he should issue you a new card with the same examination date.

Answer:
You do not need a medical form when operating a non CDL vehicle. Many people have stopped driving professionally but retain their CDL's just in case they ever wish to resume at a later date since it is easier to keep a CDL than to get one, and since they are not driving professionally do not keep a current DOT physical.
DOT physicals are only required for those who are working as a driver of a CDL vehicle, not to have a CDL.
You should, by all rights, have both your medical card and a copy of your long form with you in the truck at all times, and as suggested keep a copy at home just in case even though your company will have a copy in your DOT file.

Answer:
You are required to carry the long form in the vehicle when it is a commercial vehicle. Most LEO's will accept the pocket card, but the rule book says the long form is mandantory in the vehicle.Sometimes you have to dig through a lot horsesh#t to find the pony.

Answer:
I have been asked for medical card before while in my car....it's not too difficult to carry it in your wallet....now the long form is another story, i can only seem to keep track of it for about a week.

Answer:
I carry the short form right behind my CDL in my wallet along with my hazmat cert. card. Long form is in my brief case in the tractor.
