Overload tickets can be written not only for the amount over gross, but also for any over axles, over bridge, etc. Quite possible to get 4 seperate tickets for one overload.
Some states, Minnesota comes to mind, have been taking drivers to civil court and suing them for shortening the roads life.
Fines can range from 20 cents a lb. (Mo.) up to $1.00 and more (Ia., Md. and others) in addition to court costs.
